I Have a Griggs cambered rear end, which is not a floater. 9" housing with 8.8 diff., and have to run a 1" spacer on the rear for a matching set of 11" rims that can be rotated to any wheel position. It Doesn't have a place on it to make the wheels hub centric? The axles, I've been told are pressed in.

I've heard a floater is the better way to go, any inputs?

The car is not AIX legal anymore, so that's out the window.

No opinion either way although a floater 9" will be heavier/stronger than that 8.8 hybrid. If you want a cambered 9" floater i believe that the axel ends with the spline have to have a crowned gear and tend to wear out from normal use. if you decide to go the floater route let me know and I will take that Griggs unit off your hands.

just keep using the spacers

What the hell did you do to the car to make it illegal for AIX? I think we only have about 7 rules in AIX....

I use a full 9" floater with one degree cambered snouts and crowned shaft ends with no problems. But my old car used a stock 8.8 with 575 rwhp with no real problems either (if you don't count blown up tru-track differentials). I used the heat / press method of putting a half a degree in the 8.8 axle; which also worked fine. The C clips made me nervous, so I went to the 9 inch as hp kept getting higher.

The fully built Griggs unit is brand new. Probably couldn't get half of what I paid for it.

I have replaced a full out mm IRS and going to the dark side. Hope everything stays compliant and don't have to "relearn" the car.

I was looking at a rear Baer brake system that converts to full floater, but have a bunch of questions about it.

Well it may be a first, but I put a quiafe in it. Do you know if the the hybrid 9" with 8.8 gears have the c-clips? Just want to know what I'm dealing with.

Also trying to figure out a new brake system. Currently running manual brakes and Griggs 4 on 4. The brakes are history, may save the rears. I have a set cobra r brembos that I had run with the hydroboost system which was a big difference over stock. Then went to manual with Griggs. I haven't felt very confident with this system. Would like to switch back to hydro, but I had moved the pedals about 1' forward, and am thinking it may be a bitch to make it work. So thinking of a better braking system with the manual. I would like to save money, as I thought with Griggs. But I'm thinking stop tech. There is to many choices these days. Congrats on the last 2 years.

Hey Dawg,

Just wanted to add my 2 cents the griggs unit with 9' axle tubes was created for several reasons but one was to eliminate the c-clips. If it is Cambered you want to look out of bearing wear. They are great units you will get the best of both worlds with this. By the way what issues did you have with the griggs 4 on 4 brake setup? If they are forsale I would be interested.

Regards
