george996
Hello, I am building a 1992 Miata spec car. Haven't had any luck finding a used OEM hardtop for the car. Is it legal to use an aftermarket fiberglass replica instead? I understand that they are lighter and asume that the weight difference may have to be added to the car. Can this be done? If not, anyone know of a hardtop for sale? Thanks for your help. George
amolaver
NASA SM Rules - http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/spec_miata_rules.pdf 8.1.2 - Hardtop may be used, and if used, must be securely bolted in place. Aftermarket hard tops are allowed provided they meet the exact original equipment specifications for both design and weight I'm not aware of a protest involving an aftermarket hard top in SM, but as the rule says, if the weight differs, it is technically not legal. hard tops are expensive and can be hard to find, but classifieds here and at mazdaracers should turn one up. CL can occasionally work out as well although expect any that are a 'deal' to be sold in hours if not minutes.. ahm
