New for summer/fall 2012: NASA-X (autocross) at Sebring!

The National Auto Sport Association's Florida Region is pleased to announce a new NASA-X autocross program starting this summer at Sebring International Raceway. The plan is to spend two weekends on the grippy concrete at this beautiful and historic facility with help from the Orlando-based Martin Sports Car Club. Tentative events will be:

Saturday June 23, afternoon test & tune ("single half day event" format)

Sunday June 24, autocross (probably a "two half day events" format)

Saturday October 6, Evolution Performance Driving School (phase one, possibly also phase two)

Sunday October 7, autocross (probably a "two half day events" format)

"We're finally doing what many NASA Floridians have asked for - autocrosses held simultaneously during our roadcourse event weekends. It's going to be great, the Sebring facility has plenty of space for fun courses and the Martin Sports Car Club guys are awesome. Best of all, this gets drivers in the door to see the other kinds of fun we have. Needless to say, we're really excited!" said NASA's national autocross director and Florida regional director Jon Felton.

Entry fees will be as low as possible, nonmembers are welcome, and additional Hyperdrives may be added to each weekend's schedule so autocross participants can also get out on the 3.7 mile circuit at speed with an in-car instructor during their visit. Further details will be released and June registration will open in mid-late April 2012. Please contact Jon Felton for more information, jfelton(at)drivenasa(dot)com

This is great news Jon!

Any thoughts on "supersizing" the other way? If we allow autocrossers onto the track for a Hyperdrive session, how about letting us road course drivers into the autocross for a run, or two, or three?

Are you ready for our semi-annual Mini Prix???

This year it takes place on June 23rd & 24th at historic Sebring Raceway ! ! !

MSCC has teamed up with NASA (National Auto Sport Association) to create a fun filled weekend full of autocrossing, HPDE’s & Road Racing. If you have never autocrossed on concrete, you’re in for a real treat. The grip is phenomenal ! ! ! There are plenty of activities to do there when you’re not autocrossing or working the autocross course. You can check out the racing that’s going on over on the full 17 turn race track or just wander through the pits and check out all the cars or talk with the race drivers.

-- SCHEDULE --

There are a total of 3 half-day autox segments scheduled, Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, & Sunday afternoon (sorry no MSCC member discounts for this event). No time to sleep in on Sunday… first car needs to be out early, as in 9:30am !!!

Saturday June 23 NASA-x - $30 A Test & Tune day scheduled to start at 1pm

Sunday June 24 NASA-x - $30 This is the NASA-x and MSCC Points Event Mini-Prix, first car out at 9:30am

Sunday June 24 NASA-x - $30 A NASA-x autox scheduled for the afternoon following our MSCC Mini-Prix

Now on to the fun part . . .

-- REGISTRATION --

To register for this event you can start here (have a credit card ready):

https://www.NASAproracing.com/event/1465

Select the appropriate NASA-x package from the list at the bottom of the page, for example if you only wish to run the MSCC Mini Prix, select:

Sunday Jun 24 NASA-x (non-members) - $30

If you want to run both the Sunday morning and Sunday afternoon segments, select

Sunday Jun 24 NASA-x (non-members) - $50

In the “Choose…” box select NASA-X R - this is their catch-all class (nothing for you to worry about).

Click Register. This will take you to Checkout confirm your selection then click “Continue Checkout”

As part of the process you will need to create a NASA Login Name and Password.

Select the "Login Only" option. This creates a NASA login for use with events/purchases that don't require a NASA membership (Teen Clinics, some NASA-X events, for example). This is NOT a NASA membership.

After you have created your “Your NASA Profile” you will be asked to fill out Vehicle Information.

VERY IMPORTANT - In the “Sponsor” box please list your MSCC Car Class (i.e. CSP – for C Street Prepared).

Follow through with the remaining registration pages (there are just a few more), then you’ll be registered and ready to race!

-- T-Shirts --

T-shirts will be available for this event for $5 per shirt. Thanks to Travis Turner for another outstanding design ! ! ! We are not placing a huge order of shirts, so these will be on a first come - first served basis. These will be available at the registration table.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, please post on this forum and I will get back to you as quickly as possible. If you would rather register at the event that is ok too, but we would appreciate as many people as possible to pre-register online. That way we do not have a long line at registration.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the races ! ! !

President

Saturday test & tune pre-registration is now closed. We will take a few more entrants that day, cash only, details TBA but it will be a low-key afternoon for a limited number of folks. Remember this is the first time we have teamed up with MSCC and our first event together at Sebring, so Fri pm through Sat pm will be spent on setup and making sure everything is handled for Sunday's competition. Much of that requires us to have cars going through the course, so it benefits everyone to have some "play time" on Saturday afternoon.

Otherwise, Sunday autocross registration is open at https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1465 , pricing is:

$25 mem/$30 non to run either the Sunday morning autocross or the Sunday afternoon autocross

or

$40mem/$50non to run both of the Sunday half day autocrosses [your later entry would be all fun runs of course.]

Tentative schedule so far is...

Saturday:

12:00pm registration & tech open for test & tune

1:00pm course walk for test & tune

1:30pm drivers meeting for test & tune (mandatory)

4:45pm test & tune finish/course changes for Sunday

Sunday:

7:45am registration & tech open for heats 1 & 2

8:45am course walk for heats 1 & 2

9:15am drivers meeting for heats 1 & 2 (mandatory)

9:30am heat 1 start (drivers work heat 2)

11:00am heat 2 start (drivers work heat 1)

12:00pm registration & tech re-open for heats 3 & 4

12:30pm heat 2 finish/lunch

1:00pm course walk for heats 3 & 4

1:30pm drivers meeting for heats 3 & 4 (mandatory)

1:45pm heat 3 start (drivers work heat 4)

3:15pm heat 4 start (drivers work heat 3)

4:45pm heat 4 finish/cleanup

We are doing everything we can to make this the safest & most fun event possible. You can expect as many timed runs as we have time for, tentatively at least 4 or 5 runs per segment but hopefully more, on the biggest best fastest course we can safely put together in the space we have, which is significant (more on that below.)

If you are running for MSCC points you will need to register as NASA-X R and list your MSCC class in the "sponsor" field of your entry. Later we will need to sort which segment you registered for, TBA soon.

Otherwise, some paperwork...

Regional supplemental NASA-X rules: (coming soon)

National NASA-X rules: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x_rules.pdf

National NASA-X car classing: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x_classes.pdf

Car classing worksheet: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x_classification_form.pdf

Tech form: http://www.nasaproracing.com/rules/nasa-x_tech.pdf

And lastly, some of you may be wondering WHERE at Sebring this will be? On the back runway, T16 end to about halfway to T17. So to get there, sign the waiver and go across the bridge to the infield and drive allll the way down to the autocross paddock inside T16. Tentative diagram: http://www.drivenasafl.com/speed/sites/default/files/seb-nasax.jpg

Thanks and see you there!!!

The only time this will work is Saturday afternoon during the test & tune. We're not looking for formal heats with work/run assignments, just a bit of fun time while we make sure everything is functioning properly and perhaps test a few course design changes. Maybe a few bucks per run, anyone in a tech inspected car is welcome. More on that soon.

Updated to include the tentative diagram link. Usable space is about 1600' x 200' ... plenty of room for a fun course!

Preliminary Jun 23-24 autocross entry list is up: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?key=0ApnFIz7a5cThdHRlbXdWUklndWc4NHlfQjRCR05fZlE&output=html

The MSCC points event is Sunday morning. The NASA points event is Sunday afternoon. If you're on there but listed during the Sunday PM heats instead, please email and let me know (with your MSCC competition class included for the listing.)

Otherwise, to anyone registering from here on in at https://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1465 , please list your MSCC class in the "sponsor" or "transponder number" or "admin comments" field of your entry. If we see no MSCC class, we will assume you are signing up for the Sunday PM segment only and running only by NASA-X classing, OR signing up for both parts of the day and doing fun runs.

Watch for more details soon. Thanks!

Some changes are in the works for next weekend's autocross at Sebring, to make things better and easier for everyone, especially our friends from MSCC.

We will have more info online soon. In the meantime please don't assume that the posted schedule - or the proposed "two half day events" format - is correct. Also, the "run both segments of the day" registration option may be going away shortly.

First event of its kind, thanks for your patience and understanding!

Yep, format for next weekend is changing to better accomodate our friends from MSCC...

NO MORE 2 HALF DAY AUTOCROSS EVENT as previously stated.

SUNDAY - JUNE 24th

7:00 - Gates open

7:30 - Course open for walking

8:30 - Registration closes (all competitors #35 per person)

8:30-9:00 Late registration (additional $10 late fee applies)

9:00 - Autocross Tech closes

9:15 - Autocross Driver's Meeting

9:45 - First car on course

We will not be able to offer a "Novice Walk" for this event. If you are new to this sport, please team up with one of the experienced drivers to help you during the course walk.

Karts (shifter & non-shifter) are NOT allowed at this event. This will be addressed at future events at Sebring. I apoligize for this inconvenience.

There will not be an afternoon session of autocrossing (2 half day events as previously posted). We'll run the Mini-Prix until all competitors have completed 4-5 runs each. If time permits, we'll have "Fun Runs" following the competiton event.

Tentative schedule v2 (including UPDATED autocross on the second page) and updated entry list have been posted, linked from http://www.drivenasafl.com/speed/content/sebring

Thanks to info from MSCC and a few educated guesses I *think* we've placed everyone properly and issued all appropriate refunds for those who were signed up as double entries now that the format has changed. If not, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Jun 23-24 Sebring autocrossers, you'll soon be getting two emails about this weekend's event. One from NASA for general confirmation and one from MSCC with autocross-specific details. Please watch for 'em. Only the first of the two will be posted at http://www.drivenasafl.com/speed/content/sebring . Also be sure to check the updated entry list posted there - now featuring confirmed car numbers. Thanks!
