Zvoiture
Hello all! You have a great thing going here. Have been watching with great interest the growing frenzy around his class for a year or so with the POC. Know some of you by name and several more by face and quite a few of you by car. Just bought an 83 for Lord-knows-what-reason and wanted to introduce myself but am just going to sit back and lurk for a while. Always thought the car was gorgeous, had the pages cut out from C&D and R&T on my dorm wall in academy when it first came out and now there is one in my driveway patiently waiting to go under the knife. Don't expect a shiney new Steve McConnell-piloted SPEC racer to roll out any time in the near future! My other cars take most of my time and budget. Everything on this page is very interesting reading. Curious, where do you go for tech? I don't see much at all here. steve
Chris Benbow
Welcome Steve, Tech is usually done by an approved shop in your area if you compete in POC. In NASA you have annual tech done at the track by a NASA official. Of course in both series the cars are subject to impound and examination post race. My first car was a 240Z. I had it through high school and college. Lots of fond memories of the things that happened in and around that car.
Zvoiture
No no no...I'm sorry. Not 'tech'! I meant, like, tech discussions/forums. You know: 'I replaced my doo-hickey and now my thingamajigger won't jig' sort of thing. 'What size wrench removes the air cleaner?' and 'Can I cross-drill my brake fluid?' steve
Spec-944#70
Steve it's all done right here! Any questions and you'll get quite a few answer fairly quickly. Pull down the rules from both clubs and have at it. We're all here to help as we want to grow the series and have lots of racing buddies. The get togethers after the race is almost as much fun as the race itself.
Chris Benbow
Steve here is one site that you can refer to for some of the more standard repairs amd maintenance issues: http://www.clarks-garage.com/shop-manua ... index3.htm
Autosport944
Steve, If you come to the next POC STS event, please come by the 944 group pit area. There will be at least 14 of us there and we can show you what's up with the cars and the class. We may not be quite as fast as your fastest times at the Streets in your Z, but we are close. We also have lots of competition to increase the fun. See you at the track, Glen Uslan
Zvoiture
Unfortunately, this will be the first STS event I have skipped in a couple years. I will be over on the big track with VARA that weekend. BUT! Rest assured I will visit HEAVILY, armed with camera looking at cage pick-up points, allowed suspension mods, wiring, intake and exhaust mods, etc. And...an interesting profile I couldn't resist:
Spec-944#70
Great buy at $900!! You won't regret it! We'll tell you all you need to know to get the ball rolling and help get you set up. I hope to make the STS event but I have a bunch of work to do on my car.
Tim Comeau
Steve, You're the little thouroughbred jockey-sized driver who I talked to about sharing some enduro rides with me, right!? Green and white suit? I've got the zebra colored 944-spec car. As you pointed out, the platform you're used to and the 944 are similar, so the cross over should be easy. I'd encourage you to prepare for and run in both the POC and NASA. The POC rules were purposely "steered" to allow easy crossover and they've pretty much remained that way. The SCCA also has a very similar class called spec-944. It's my hope that someday we'll be able to have a huge 944 get together among the clubs. The NASA rules are short, clear, and quite helpful. After the cars are built, there isn't much "tech" stuff to do, though you can browse back through the postings. Basically, it's stripped down, stock cars that weigh a minimum of 2600 lbs with driver. Stock tranny, brakes, engines(mostly!). Just post any questions you have and someone will answer pretty quickly.
Zvoiture
Yeah, that's me...all 120 lbs.
