UBR Posted August 18, 2012 Posted August 18, 2012 Since AI has a new and improved dash rule this year and we have a large AI field at nats, I figured there would be some of us fabricating something to be officially "legal". I'm sure every dash will have some functionality (why else would they be required). Being a creative group that we are, I figured there should be an award for the best and worst non-OEM dash that meets the AI rules. We could call it the Trophy for Outrageous Dashboard Design or the TODD Award. I just finished fab'ing and installing mine. (Check out an early prototype here) I still have some "decorating" before it is complete. j Quote
Cmy70go Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 That would be the "other Todd" award. Good one Jim Quote
nape Posted August 19, 2012 Posted August 19, 2012 I forgot my camera to take a shot of the Nationwide series car out in front the Discount Tire a few weeks ago that was lacking a dash from the centerline of the car to the right A-pillar, just to throw a little fuel on the fire. Mine is going to be the ugliest thing I can make out of dryer vent and old, scratched lexan. How many "factory" looking dashes still have functional ducting? Quote
UBR Posted August 19, 2012 Author Posted August 19, 2012 Todd, Sorry for the confusion. I've renamed the award. Trophy for Outrageous Dashboard Design and Creativity. or the TODD C award. TJ, If those dryer ducts actually blow air, that's way too much functionality. I doubt any of the OEM dashes can blow at you. (OK, maybe Anders') j Quote
brkntrxn Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 You are missing a perfect opportunity here. Rename the award to: Realistic Expectations of a Trophy for Outrageous Dashboard Design aka RETODD Quote
Grizlbits Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Todd, You may not believe this; but I did not start, suggest, or hint to anyone about this. I am however enjoying the roasting of your "gay dash rule". Quote
marshallmosty Posted August 20, 2012 Posted August 20, 2012 Here's the first cut of my dash... I even transplanted the entire dash and steering column from the donor vehicle because it looked so nice and I wanted it to look "stock"... The fur keeps you nice and warm... Thoughts? Quote
UBR Posted August 21, 2012 Author Posted August 21, 2012 Ooooo. Marshall. I like it. If only I could get the "My Little Pony" decals to stick to that fur... And I'll vouch for Chris... Nope, he had nothing to do with this... except for naming it the "gay dash rule." Thanks Chris! j Quote
tacovini Posted August 22, 2012 Posted August 22, 2012 You guys crack me up! LOL Even the fur dash looks better than this: Thanks for the idea! I think it will be good to review all the AI dashes at Nats with photos and awards!!! I've seen some really awesome ideas and some pretty weak ones. -=- Todd Quote

It all made sense then, I heard you had a short stick. BUWHAHAHAHA Quote
UBR Posted August 22, 2012 Author Posted August 22, 2012 Todd, Is that your new LS? Now that's a real racer. j Quote

nape Posted August 27, 2012 Posted August 27, 2012 People usually walk away shaking their heads after looking at my car, but I didn't think it was because of the dash... Quote
