New to TT

I am finishing my car and hope to drive in some HSDE and TT events in 2013. I have downloaded the needed forms and have been reading the rules. I have a lot of high speed driving experience but little car road race track time. I have raced road bikes in AFM and have been doing track days for approximately 15 years. I also held an NHRA drag license for 2 years where I raced in super gas.

I know this is different but I am very comfortable and resposible on the track and behind the wheel. So when I sign up for my first HSDE day what level should I do? My goel is to go to TT but I see I need to do a level 4 HSDE to get licensed.

Sounds like the bike stuff might help you move up the DE ladder fairly quickly, but yep you're right you'll start there first before jumping over to the deep end. NASA is pretty good about moving people up to the next DE level once they show they've got the skills for that level down pat. There's alot to take in that'll make you quicker AND safer You'll appreciate that everyone has to go through the same learning & demonstration process once you're over in TT and/or Racing all going 10/10ths for that perfect lap.

Thanks, I can't wait to get started. Went for a ride last year at T-hill and liked it. Different kind of excitement compared to bikes. Plus the wife made me promise to have a roll cage after my last bike crash

I've got quite a few former bike guys doing TT in my region (Texas) for similar reasons

I'm also new to the TT class for 2013 and wife is also insisting on a roll cage! too funny.

NASA is by far the best organization for running safe and fun events.

funny -- when my wife let me buy my car it was contingent upon selling my motorcycle (and after a highway crash).

If it's been a while since you've been on track or in a HPDE event, you might feel more comfortable doing a day in HPDE 3 as a starting point. HPDE 4 starts out with open passing right away, and has more race cars. HPDE 3 (at least in norcal) starts out with a few passing restrictions as a starting point, and then moves to open passing by the end of the day if everything is going well with the group. If you're ready for TT, you'll move through HPDE 3 and 4 super fast, anyway.
