Tech inspection question

Recommended Posts

My brother and I are attending the event at Infineon on 16 March. At HDPE1 what I the tech inspection process. I am bringing my 2012 Corvette Grand Sport with just 2500 miles on her. It's a coupe and I think I can tech it myself but just want to make sure I am meeting all requirements.

If anyone could also recommend a good place to buy a helmet in the Bay Area that would be awesome.

Nice car!! As far as the tech inspection, they recently made it so some cars in HPDE can be self tech'd for Norcal. In the http://nasanorcal.com/index.php?/site/section_news/ page, read the 'Self Tech Pilot Program rolled out for HPDE' info for details.

If you do need to get the car inspected, then check the http://nasanorcal.com/index.php?/site/section_hpde_tech webpage for the tech station nearest you. I believe that the inspection is free (it was when I used to take my car for the HPDE inspection). The inspection is usually pretty quick, but it sounds like your car is in very nice shape given how new it is. I'm not sure how much you will be tracking the car, but if you will be doing a lot of events, or what type of brake fluid GM fills the car with, but high temp fluid (Motul RBF600 or somewthing similar) would be good to reduce issues on track, or al least maybe get the brakes bled before the event.

If you do take the car in for a HPDE inspection, then the http://nasanorcal.com/index.php?/site/section_info/ webpage has 'HPDE Technical Inspection Form' in the HPDE section near the bottom.

As far as places for the helmet, I suggest either Wine Country Motorsports (at Sonoma aka Infineon raceway) or IO Port Racing. I got my first helmet at IO Port racing, and the owner really helped to make sure that the fit was perfect. Make absolutely sure that the helmet really fits correctly - IO Port has some info on their website like http://www.ioportracing.com/instructions/pyrotecthelmetsizing.htm and

http://www.ioportracing.com/instructions/bellhelmetsizing.htm.

Note - when you get off track, then do not set the parking brake as the brakes will be really hot. Bring a torque wrench for the wheel lugnuts, tire air pressure gauge, gatorade/water, snacks, etc. Good luck and have fun out there!! - Jim
