Mystic_Cobra Posted July 18, 2013 Posted July 18, 2013 So, last week Ford released the specs on the 2014 model of the 302S "...that is eligible to compete in a variety of SCCA and NASA classes..." http://themustangsource.com/ford-racing-mustang-boss-302s-now-available-2809/ If my math is correct, 380 mm brakes means 15" which is a little large for all of the American Iron classes. Are we going to change the rules or ask the newcomers to downgrade their cars? Ford Racing has announced that they are now taking orders for the 2014 Mustang Boss 302S, the factory-built race car that is eligible to compete in a variety of SCCA and NASA classes. This will be the fourth and likely last year the Boss 302S will be produced, with the next generation 2015 Mustang set to debut in the near future. For the most part the 2014 Boss 302S remains the same, although there are a variety of new colors and extras available. For the first time Grabber Blue (no charge) and Satin Black ($5,995 extra) are available along with Performance White. A BBS wheel package ($2,410), seam welding ($4,500), an an XL Recaro seat ($700) are the available options. Like in 2011-2013 only 50 Boss 302S models will be made for the year, available to be ordered through Ford dealers using the part number M-FR500-B302S. Production is scheduled for late fourth quarter of 2013, and suggested retail pricing is listed at $89,995. 2014 Ford Mustang Boss 302S Specifications: Engine: 5.0L TiVCT Boss engine with racing calibration Engine oil cooler FR serialized intake badge Boss 302 fuel system Upgraded cooling system Driveline: T-6060 6 speed transmission with integrated cooling pump 3.73 SRA with Torsen T2R Differential FR1 Muffler Chassis: Front: coil over struts Front lower control arms with extended ball joint and delrin bushing kit FR adjustable front swaybar Caster/Camber plates Rear: coil over shocksTubular lower control arms with spherical bearings FR Swaybar EPAS with unique Ford Racing calibration FIA Spec 6 point roll cage Dynamic 3 way adjustable dampers Wheels: Front 9″ x 19″ M-1007-DC199LGB; Rear 10″ x 19″ M-1007-DC1910LGB Electrical: Lightened FR wiring harness AMB Transponder Switch plate – Start/ignition, aux switches Interior: AIM data acquisition system with GPS Recaro HANS Pro Racer seat Fire system with 2 nozzles Quick release racing steering wheel Window net Safety system triangle nets 6 point racing harness Master cut off switch Exterior: Color: TBD FR front splitter Rear adjustable CF wing Unique fiberglass hood with air extractors Hood pins Boss 302S graphics package Front and Rear Tow Hooks Brakes: Lightweight Brembo 4 piston brakes Brake rotor sizes increased to 380mm front and 350mm rear PFC racing pads Brake duct kit Stainless steel brake lines FR brake booster assembly Unique FR ABS calibration Quote

It only cost $100 to do mine.... Quote
stevepoe Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 ED, Is that would frame for your paint booth ? Quote
wheelhopper Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Now Ed's car is starting to resemble the old Fox. Who knew he had a $6K paint job. I should have been a Veterinarian. Quote
marshallmosty Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 Also, the 19" wheels (required to fit the 15" brakes) are a bit too big (19" dia and 10" rear width) for current AI rules... Quote
stevepoe Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 grand am gs gets a 18" wheel over 15" brakes so ? Quote
Rehagen Racing Posted July 19, 2013 Posted July 19, 2013 380mm is 15". They will probably be the 2013-14 GT500 brakes. The 18" BBS wheels will clear those brakes without issue. If anyone wants to put their deposit down on a 2014..... We can help you with that. Quote

nape Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 You know my answer to the question buried in the middle. Tell them to downgrade to the 14" brakes. If you can afford a $90k turn key race car, you can afford to put some 14" brakes on it. Hell, you might be able to sell them to a street car guy and make some money... They're going to swap out the factory remote reservoir shocks for some Motons/ASTs anyway, so I don't buy the "it costs too much" angle. I don't buy the "not all of us are mechanics" angle either. If you aren't mechanically inclined enough to change calipers, you're paying someone to work on it anyway. Cut a deal with them while they're changing the shocks for you. Quote
marshallmosty Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Guys, At the moment, the AI rules are just that... the rules. The S197 doesn't need anymore "help". If you plan on a '14 Boss, plan on putting 14" brakes, and 18x9.5" rims (max per the rules)... Quote
edhunter Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 ED, Is that would frame for your paint booth ? Yep... $100 paint booth for a $100 paint job. PlastiDip???? Ron Nope... John Deere Blitz Black. 1 gallon cost $38, plus reducer and hardener. Probably less than $100 now that I think of it. The hot-rodders seem to like it, says it lasts and doesn't chalk/fade. We'll see.... Quote
nape Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 Nice. I'm partial to $5/gal tractor trailer white, but to each their own. Quote

Mystic_Cobra Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 Maybe we should lock this down before it's gets out of hand? Quote
D Algozine Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 Maybe we should lock this down before it's gets out of hand? Pretty sure your safe........you guys can come out from behind your chairs No racers have ever been harmed in the making of a forum post What would make anyone think that the rules will change, just because of one car ? That's crazy. Wait........I think I see a Ford engineer in the grassy knoll... Quote

marshallmosty Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 We could always take away the HP/TQ limits on the S197 but put them on the spec "donut spare" tire. That would be interesting... I'd love to see the FR ABS handle that situation... Quote
