1992 Mazda Miata NASA TTE

Posted (edited)

I am selling off my NASA TTE car so I can move out West.

$10,000 for the Miata with both sets of wheels

Either respond here or email me ([email protected]) for more pictures or information.

I am in no hurry to sell so low ball offers will be ignored. I have FAR too much money tied up into this setup.

Due to missing the last NASA TT event this year, this car only won 2nd overall in the NASA Great Lakes TTE class for 2013. The car is OUTRAGEOUSLY reliable, I have never had to pop the hood on the car for ANY reason this entire race season. The coolant and oil temps are rock solid, the car is consistent as consistent can be, it's quite a looker and it fairs very well on the track. I know I could make it a lot faster by taking more weight out and adding aero but I am moving on to bigger and better things next year.

The car is stored with a car cover (comes with the car) indoors and I have some spare parts that will come with it.

1992 Miata at 2,285# comp weight with 5 gallons of fuel

-Completely stripped and painted shell with 1968 Porsche Slate Gray (think Steve McQueen's 911) with clearcoat on the exterior

--New timing belt, tensionsers, gaskets, wear items

--95D poly motor mounts

--FM crossflow radiator, manually powered radiator fans

--Remote thermostat setup and a lot of heat reflective tape everywhere

--External oil cooler with ducting

--Custom intake with air temp sensor bung and heatshield

--FM Happy Meal stage 1 clutch/flywheel combo (10.3# flywheel with 318 lb/ft clutch)

--Brand new shifter bushings

-Poly bushings throughout

--Removed and greased twice a year (pre-season and mid-season)

-Depowered PS rack

-All HVAC and AC parts removed

-Blue-printed front wheel bearings with Amsoil long-fiber grease

-Brand new rear wheel bearings

-Fresh synthetic fluids twice per season

-Xida Clubsports with 700/400# springs and helper springs

-1.6L brakes with Carbotech XP10/8

--Factory ABS unit still intact and functioning (I have the non-ABS metal brake lines if you want to convert it to non-ABS)

--Calipers rebuilt with new seals

--New OEM brake lines

--Brake ducting for front brakes

-Welded 6 pt roll cage (.120" wall 1.5" DOM tubing)

-Frog arms

-UltraShield Rally 14" drivers seat, UltraShield SM 16" passenger seat

-Deka lightweight battery

-Power windows (never made the switch to manual due to not enough free time)

-Factory black hardtop with metal brackets

-Togue Run front lip (for brake ducting)

-15x9 6UL with shaved 225 RA1 tires (with one track weekend on them)

-15x9 C3M painted Pontiac saphire blue with 225 Rivals (with 150 miles on them)

-Professionally corner balanced and aligned by an ex-cheif mechanic of two Rolex and one ALMS team (have alignment specs in the car)

-I am probably forgetting a lot of details but you get the idea

My TTE Miata was down on power in August so I couldn't give Adam a run for his money...

...but I can attest that this is a very nice looking car. Unlike mine, it looks like a very clean rust-free build! Great paint and finish.

Looks like a great car! Reminds me of my build except with a better paint job lol. GLWS.

Thanks guys. I had second thoughts about doing a fresh paint job on a track car but it was worth it for sure. If I was staying around another year, I would build it more competitively for TTE.

..hmmm... something doesn't add up for TTE points.

more photos here: http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=517841

225 45 15 RA1 +6

Coilovers +5

Swaybars and endlinks +2

Frog Arms +3

Air dam +3

Strut tower brace third attachment point +1

Torsen +3

So that is already +23

I am pretty sure the air dam would count as a splitter also +3

So +26 points.

the Mazda lip is only +3 for whatever reason even though it isn't perfectly veritcal. Still not worth +3, unbolt it...

okay, but still too many points for TTE (and ran all 2013 season this way )

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess...

one could have had different wheels/tires on the car from what its being sold with...

but I couldnt know for sure.

Are you 100% positive he didn't run the BFG Rivals? +1 vs +6 = +18 vs +23

FYI, that isn't the Mazda lip. It extends further out so yes technically it is probably plus additional points.

FWIW, I competed against this car in July and August at which time I spoke to Adam. He had built the car as he wanted, then decided to do TT. So it really isn't optimized for the class. It is possible that it is a couple points over as it sits now - and I have to say, at least he has been clear about what is on the car and isn't hiding anything.

To any potential buyers - if the car is over a couple of points that would be easily rectified. There are many helpful people on here that could advise you too.

To Team Weber - Unfortunately there has been a lack of tech inspection in our region last couple of years, meaning it is really up to the competitors. I had meant to check out this car in person a little more and if I had noticed issues I would have spoken to Adam about them. Unfortunately I spent both weekends chasing issues of my own (harness mount issues, down on power, had to go eat at Cracker Barrel when it rained, etc).

If someone were so inclined then; Ditch the sway bars and go back to stock and run BFG Rivals (or any +2 225) for a total of +19 OR any +7 205 for a total of +18.

Very nice looking car. Wish I was in the market. Free bump for you.

225 45 15 RA1s were on the car at least 1 timed TT session (more than 1 actually IIRC) -- (and yes I'm sure as he was right next to us at MidO August FWIW)

He ran 225s every event we saw him at when we also ran TT. April Ohio event is the 1 I am not 100% sure of as we didn't run TT that time so had not looked around to be honest.

Fair enough. In any case, the car seems like it could be TTE-compliant with minor changes.

Sorry to be MIA here. Just to confirm what was said previously, the car was built before I got into TT so it's not 100% TT focused, some parts could be removed and added to make it far more competitive. With that said, I did remove enough parts (including the LSD for an open diff and the front strut bar) in order to run the RA-1s to stay within the 19 point limit. I spent most of the season experimenting with tire choices and setup but ultimately went back to the RA-1s. Since my open diff was making a ton of noise and I already decided to stop running in TT and sell the car, I threw the open diff away (it had a lot of bearing noise by the end of the season) so the Torsen is back in the car.

For someone to take the car as it sits right now and run the RA-1s in TTE, you would need to purchase an open diff. There are a LOT of high dollar parts on this car, including both sets of wheels, that can be sold off for cheaper, potentially more competitive parts, so the high asking price can be offset somewhat by the amount of money that can be saved by going such route.

Still for sale!

Price dropped to $10,000 with BOTH sets of wheels. Buy the car, sell the parts you don't need, laugh all the way to the bank.

2014 seasons starts soon and this car is ready for a new owner.

Price is now $9,000 for the car with both sets of wheels. I need to move this quickly now.
