JSG1901
NOTE: There were two proposals for this change. I've listed both below. Type Modification to an existing rule Existing rule section (if applicable) Non-DOT Tire Proposed change Allow Grand Am Continental Non-DOT tires at the DOT power ratio. Reason Essentially a DOT tire. Not performance wise on par with available Non-DOT slicks. Readily available, cheap tire. Proposed new wording ------------------------------------------------------------------- Type Modification to an existing rule Existing rule section (if applicable) Tire correction factor for continental tire challenge series tires Proposed change No addition of points for running the conti series tires. Reason They are tires designed for endurance racing and are proven to be in the same time range if not slower then the hoosier r6. Because these tires are professionally used and raced it allow the racer on a budget to obtain them at a decent price and not be hit with the large correction factor. Also every other series in NASA racing and time trials do not recognize these tires as a true NON-DOT slick... as taken from the Super Touring series.. GACTSCC Tires: Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge tires are exempt from the -0.75 Modification Factor for Non-DOT approved tires when calculating the “Adjusted Wt/Hp Ratio” (Does not include “Rolex series” tires). Proposed new wording GACTSCC Tires: Grand Am Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge tires are exempt from the -0.75 Modification Factor for Non-DOT approved tires when calculating the “Adjusted Wt/Hp Ratio” (Does not include “Rolex series” tires). Members Eric W.
For w/ a * to state "current" GA tires. We don't know what new tires they have down the pipeline, etc that might end up being different. Right now they suck as sprint tires
Luke P.
I am for, but agree with Eric on maintaining this on a year-by-year basis. If the GA slick advances or is updated, the rule will need to change.

Members Rokket H.
For. These are made by Hoosier and are basically an R6 without the DOT Lines. (yeah I am sure people will disagree) but I have ran them both and found no major advantage to the Continentals in race conditions.

scottbm3
If tires are not DOT then there should be a penalty. -Scott B.
llis
Against. In my experience, the tires are different, especially after the first couple of heat cycles.
RJ's325ITS
I VOTE NO! I will hate to see nasa getting into the tire business by telling me what makes a DOT tire a DOT tire! Let the shoe maker make my shoes, and let the tire manufacturers go thru proper “well” established channels to certified/test their products and catalogue them as DOT or not a DOT. Thank you.
