Members Jim P. 0
Folks, I have been in the software industry for 35+ years and I still don't get the idea behind spam. Especially the repeated postings on forums in foreign languages! But alas we have been under siege lately and do our best to keep it out of harm's way. If you have a thread that gets deleted please let me know, we are doing our best to kill the spam on this forum but occasionally we delete a valid thread. There are literally 100's of spam threads started every day, so you can see how we can occasionally delete a good thread. Sorry for any inconvenience,

kbrew8991 0
in the past I've seen techie people post about possible spam solutions - maybe it's time to talk National into investigating them?

rzoops 0
Phpbb (what this site runs on) is free forum software and notorious for attracting spammers. Vbulletin is very common "enterprise forum software" and not very expensive, especially for an organization as large as NASA, and has dramatically better spammer controls. Spam is never an issue on any of the dozens of vbulletin automotive forums I've participated on over the years, both big and small. I suspect a very small investment in that area would dramatically improve the ease of use and participation from many people.
mcmmotorsports 0
For as long as this is been going on, I doubt very highly that there's anything being done to try and stop it.
TowDawg 0
Do they hack existing users accounts and post, or do they post on their own? I thought I remembered having to fill in the "word box" security thing, and also have my first 5 posts approved by a moderator.
Members Jim P. 0
They post on their own and all of their posts have to approved so most of you do not see it. When we log in all we see are little green question marks for all of the spam that needs to be approved or deleted...
Members Jim P. 0
The spammers worked overtime last night - 203 deleted this morning!
mcmmotorsports 0
So if they are getting past the authentication registration, wouldn't one think to try something different to stop this?
MattMan 0
That is ridiculous! I'm a new user here and I am good at web stuffs. The first thing I noticed was the registration question is too easy for a SPAM bot. If you can Google the question and find an answer so can the SPAM bot. Change it to a CAPTCHA, one of those annoying pictures that spell a word that I can never read the first time. That would be a start. This would be for Admin level Moderators. If the need help just PM me. [email protected]

sonny 0
The latest crop... Paging Dr. Tu... My hand-writing might look like Chinese, but I don't know how to read nor write Chinese. (It's that "doctor writing" curse.) I only know how to speak Chinese (with a heavy Americun accent).
TowDawg 0
I was thinking about Sonny during this thread too. Who needs all the spam offering ED drugs? Just have Sonny write a prescription for you.
matthugie 0
This seems like an appropriate place to try to get to 5 posts so I can PM someone about an item FS. There's also a post I tried to make regarding some advice for a weld in camber/toe kit for the e30 that I'm 0/2 on getting approved. It's kind of hard to get 5 posts relatively quickly without essentially making pointless posts. I'm not criticizing as it's obvious how much work goes into keeping the forum clean, but getting initiated is a bit difficult, especially when several of your first posts don't make the cut. So, long story short, nothing to see here. Carry on.
