New sound DBa at Sonoma

Recommended Posts

I was wondering what the old DBa were and if I need to be worried? Since I do not know what my car did before. Also if I signup for an event and am to loud can I get credit for future event? Or is there somewhere somehow to test?

I believe it used to 103 db, maybe it was 105

It you fail the test, you have to make it quieter or your done for the day. No refunds.

Laguna Seca was 95db for a long time but now is 90 for most events, some stock cars might not pass that

But NASA in July is 105 db

Confused. Are you saying the Sonoma sound limit has changed? If so, to what? Where did this info come from?

nm, google found it:

http://www.nasaproracing.com/event/1772

New Sound Limit:

There is a STRICT sound limit of 101 dBA measured 50’ from the line on driver’s right, apex of T12. Attempts to fool the meter or lift will easily be detected by the track’s dedicated sound person (they hate that!). So, please prepare to adjust your muffling system if necessary. Any car over 101 will be given one chance to fix it. Over 103 and you will be excluded from the remainder of the event.

Yes, it changed from 103 to 101. Most cars come in at 90-something, and the really loud ones in the low 100's. I've watched the sound meter at Sonoma during various race groups and there will definitely be multiple cars that come close to or exceed that 101db level, but those are really loud track only cars -- not a concern for most street cars.
