tinytim
Whats up guys!! First off I am super excited to have finally reach a point in my life where this has become a reality and not just a dream. I have always want to race since I knew what a fast car was. I have yet to compete in any sort of road racing. I deiced my best bet was to build a super solid race car, get schooled in driving, and have damn good time doing. I can't wait to join this community and go to events. I plan to do the HPDE then compete in a few different events to find whats best for me. I am banking on GTS as the right one. My car: Audi B5 A4 Audi 4.2L paired with the AWD drivetrain 8 point cage lots of custom made parts (I work at a race car fab shop) Here's a few shots of the build: Sad and tired A4, 2.8 with a dead cylinder... it will never look like this again. 4.2L Arrives Rebuild time: Initial test fit. Test fire and she runs! Long tubes: Test fit... they ended up be a little wide so the frame and firewall got notched: Motor mounts: Trans mounts gettting CNCed this week: Cage prep!! Bye bye rotted subframe! Whoa that's a lot of pics. So that is where I am at right now. I hope to have her done in the next 2 months so I can get some track time in and get certified. What do you guys think? Any suggestions for an NASA Newby??

bmwjoon
Dude, sweet build. I know your cage is not finished but please read the NASA CCR on the section about the down tubes from the main hoop. The ones you have right now terminate on that cross tube which is a no no.

Thanks! I was informed about that and I am going to extend the hoop supports to the floor.
bmwjoon
At this stage it's an easy fix. Great luck with the rest of the build ! Looks like it's going to be a beast.

tinytim
I'm baaaccckkkkk. So its been way too long since I have had time to work on the ol' race car... life has finally chilled out a bit and I am now back at the fab shop part time for the summer (living the two job life). Got a lot of the cage primed and got the steering wheel back in. Next up is to seal the floor where I cut the holes for header clearance, mount the pedals, and finally get to installing the seats. Here's some shots of the cage primed (I know its not that interesting but it sure looks sweet). I'll be updating a lot over the next few weeks. Sure feels good to be welding again!! (don't mind the mess... everything just gets packed in at the end of the day)

tinytim
Any more updates? Curious to the build! I know it's been awhile, I work at mountain bike park during the summer and it keeps me very busy to say the least. I start back at the fab shop in 2 weeks, so the project will start rolling along then. I did get a chance to get the cage primed, but that about it for work on in over the last few months.
