It is in the OH/IN region - you may want to check with your region to be certain.

The biggest problem with window numbers is visibility for the corner workers. I've done corner working in the last year as well and sometimes people put dark colored tape on windows, into a dark interior. It's not enough of a contrast to make out easily. Corner working is a tough enough job without having to add one more problem for them out there.

Sorry guys, it's not okay in the Northeast region. It is too difficult for corner workers to see the numbers when they are on windows. Now if you had REALLY big rear windows and did the number huge in good contrasting color ... we still would send you back to the paddock to do it again.

I have seen the SoCal guy do it without a problem..

But I cannot remeber seeing anyone in the Norcal Area doing that..

if you dont want to hurt the paint, get some blue masking tape from an automotive supply shop (like Finnishmasters). I personaly use the home depot stuff and have not seen any ill effects from it.

I'd like the blue tape idea, if my car wasn't blue!

I've put stick on white numbers on my windows for other HPDE type events, with no problem. I'm about to do my first NASA event.

I was thinking of printing nice large numbers on paper, then using the blue tape to tape this paper to the inside of my windows. This would create a number plate, with contrasting black on white colors.

Can anyone tell me why this would be a problem.

I can see a reason. The corner workers are looking for #'s on the doors. That is were the race cars have them, if everyone in HPDE has them there is it easier for the corner workers to find/see them. Also, if I were to put the #'s in my rear window, they could not be the size they want them to be.. you really should email the area director to get a definite answer if you wouls like to put them in the window.

BTW what event are you going to?

Another thing to consider...

If you print the number on paper & put it inside the window, it's quite possible that the sun would reflect off the window, making the number all but invisible to some of the corner workers. It's kind of like when you're trying to see if a girl in another car is cute (or even a girl), & you can't, because the reflection of the sun is blinding Food for thought...
