Exomotive exocet (miata-based kit car) HPDE question

Recommended Posts

If you're not familiar with the exocet, exomotive's website shows the three frames they sell - base, sport, race. Sport has a roll bar, race has a roll cage.

My question is - can I get on track (HPDE) with the sport version, or would the race version be required by NASA (and/or the tracks NASA-SE runs at)?

Not to speak for Southeast, but we've had a Sport version run in HPDE/TT/GRM UTCC at VIR... they look like a blast to drive!

Does it have a roll bar? Hpde requirements list convertibles must have roll bar

Technically there is a list of convertibles with factory rollover protection (not necessarily "roll bars" as we think of 'em) that are nationally approved for HPDE... this definitely wouldn't be on it, but some are ok (region/track dependent of course.)

But yes, the Sport versions of the Exocet do have a rollbar and harness bar:

Jon - thanks for posting the pic, should help clear things up a bit.

Bob - the sport version (pictured above) definitely has a roll bar. But, as different from a miata as it is, and as open as it is, I didn't want to presume only to find out later that I should've started with the race version.

It would be perfectly fine for HPDE, but would need a few things for racing.

I would run arm restraints for extra safety in that. Prob not required for HPDE but cheap insurance
