TT Roll cage question

Recommended Posts

WannaGoFas

So I have been building a 95 M3 to compete in NASA - Texas reign

TTC or TTB and eventually for GTS. I've gone over everything

Mechanically and its time for the Roll cage and other safety

equipment to get installed. I am looking at what it will take

to create the safest/strongest roll cage possible while still

remaining TT legal. (A little background, i already have a

few pieces of titanium in my legs from a previous accident,

so safety is something I take very seriously)

I'm planning on going with a "basic design" custom 6 point

weld in cage with foot-well intrusion bars and dash bar added.

I'll have it built by my friends over at Apex Auto works

https://www.facebook.com/ApexAutoWorks

(check out there page great guys and the awesome work).

Im looking for something very similar to this design inside

a E46 that TC design built. I like how it is as close to the

structure of the car as possible, giving maximum room

inside the car. I may also add another cross bar from the

passenger side main hoop to the driver side rear cage mount.

I quess my real question is, Is this Legal for NASA TT to

weld the main hoop the the body? and also on the A-pillar

I know we are allowed to add gusting for support, but what

about welding the cage to different parts to the body to

maximize space inside the car. Or is it stronger to just

add gusting in those areas?

any help is appreciated, sorry for the huge pictures,

i cant resize them on this forum, click here for smaller pics

The short answer is yes. Refer to 2015 TTB-TTF classification form Section H, as it is pretty clearly spelled out.

You might be looking for gusseting here.

building for GTS I would use TT3 or TT2 as my target TT class on my way there. GTS is very open on mods allowed, and TT# more closely mimmicks that.

It is legal to weld the cage to the body as you showed in those pictures. However, it would be counted as another attachment point(s), and those are assessed points in TTf-b.

Im no expert, thats just how it was explained to me when I asked. So if im incorrect, someone can chime in.
