hufflepuff
In reference to CCR 15.6.8 forward hoops, can the hoops be dropped just in front of the dash like the pictures shown below? I believe I have seen both variations (both through the dash and just in front of the dash) around the paddock.
kbrew8991
Pretty sure you can (approx 95%). If you go that route, please consider some additional bar(s) underneath the dash down low that kick forward to help prevent the floor caving in on your feet. A short little V coming off the forward part of the cage could probably do it. You'd be surprised how much a wheel and tire could cave in backwards buckling the floor and all that in a heavy front impact. most recent example I witnessed (note: non-NASA event fwiw):
hufflepuff
Thanks for the advice, Ken. That crash looks like it was pretty nasty.
kbrew8991
No worries hope that helps! The 2nd one you posted actually looks pretty well done - the forward kicker ties right into the rest of the door bar structure. Seems pretty smart to me. btw - waving yellows are important and one should heed them, lest they collect a stalled car near the track's edge. davidfarmer
The rules to me imply you go as far forward as possible, but don't make specific locations. Most non-factory built race cars either seem to mount just behind the dash, or cut slightly into it. It is very difficult to go further in most cars unless you gut the door hinges and completely fabricate the dorm mounting etc.
