NASA PT - SCCA ??

Any of you run your car in both NASA PT and SCCA competition? I'm curious if there are classes in SCCA that are compatible with our PT classes.

SM is a direct cross over between the two groups. IT can be, but you won't be competitive in either if you stay within the rules of both (typically), but at least you can race. SCCA ST looks like a good fit for the faster PT classes as well.

 

What are you thinking?

I was planning to use my PTE car in STL. Just build the motor STL legal, and the PT dyno reclass system makes it very easy to compete in PT. It should work that way for many of the scca classed cars as well.

Ya, that should work, just be careful and watch the SCCA rules. For example, you don't need a fire system in PT, but would in STL. You also have to watch cam lift, and silly things like a dashboard, and cage rules.

yea it looks like my e36 sedan will be classed in PTE, so I'm trying to make sure that the cage will pass tech in both SCCA and NASA...as you know, SCCA has differing cage rules per class...research continues.

Depending on the class you should be fine. My car will be built for PTC and STU depending on if they allow my car in that class with SCCA

I run an ITA miata in SCCA and am considering running PTD with NASA. I'll have to be swapping 100lbs back and forth (2330 lbs NASA/2430 ITA SCCA) but otherwise that's the only real change. My car is competitive in ITA (the driver, not so much) but we'll see in PTD. The times for this area are few and far between and all over the place.

I've never heard of a FULLY NASA legal cage not being legal for SCCA but i've failed dozens of SCCA "legal" cages or at least claimed legal cages, in tech. It's probably literally an average of two per weekend for 4 years. Mostly for incomplete welds.

 

And yes in looking to cross class into SCCA the main sticking points if going for STL or STU (at least in my case) are that you must have a dash board and the battery must be in the stock location.

Mine isn't legal for SCCA due to their being only 1 passenger side door bar. Legal with NASA, not with scca.

Two passenger side door bars, correct. And highly recommended for any series, if, for nothing more to make the structure more rigid through the door. Cage should have never been built without both.

 

Note, an ITS RX7 fits nicely into PTD and should be very competitive in both.

Not saying they don't exist but in my 5 years teching cars i never saw a NASA racecar with only one passenger door bar.
