E46 motorsport chassis cage legality

I'm looking at the factory BMW E46 motorsport chassis.

 

It seem like the main hoop is not legal as per NASA rules, since it's made up from three different members.

 

 

Is ths factory design acceptable in NASA GTS ?

GTS is governed by NASA CCR in respect to legality of cages and safety equipment - no special ruling in that regard with in GTS.

I think he's saying no, it's not CCR legal, but I am not an expert, and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

Bill, you are right - it is not.

 

I understood that the original question was - if the cage is legal for GTS, not being legal by NASA CCR?

 

GTS has no additional provisions in Rules in regards to cages outside of CCR.

Simple answer, cage is not legal for NASA and/or GTS competition.

Send the details with pictures up to NASA Corporate and they can issue a ruling. There are several factory race car cages that do not meet the spec, even though they are extremely well built, so they may give you a waiver for it.

I was thinking about copying the design in a custom cage. The front tube and rear support tube are actually a single tube, to which the individual tubes of the "main hoop" connect. I just found it very clever. I've figured since it's a BMW factory design, it might be allowed in GTS under some obscure rule provision.

 

Will be sticking to a normal design.
