CVT reliability?

I'm looking into building a TTU car using a 1000cc Yamaha Apex motor. I'm concerned about belt reliability and was wondering if this has been done before. I see some sand rail type applications have small fans they blow into the case or leave the case off but haven't seen anything for road racing. Obviously the A mod type autox cars don't really apply with 40-60 seconds runs and plenty of cool down time between.
