rherold9 Posted February 6, 2017 Posted February 6, 2017 No where does it mention yes or no to ECU tuning in H2 restricted prep from what I see? Am I missing something or is that right? If so, why is that there is no tuning allowed? Why is factory allowed but not restricted? Thinking of picking up an H2 Restricted prep car but don't want to do full exhaust and an intake without a tune for the sake of engine reliability on track. Running lean or rich isn't the best thing for engine. Quote
AZELISE Posted February 7, 2017 Posted February 7, 2017 If the rules don't specifically allow something... it is not allowed. So, no tuning in H2 restricted prep. One possible reason would be to equalize competition between H2 restricted, limited and factory prep vehicles. The only factory prep cars are s2000 and there is plenty of knowledge about tuning the ECU and what gains can be made. It is probably accounted for with min weight and max HP. If you run stock ECU and O2 sensors, won't the ECU keep the engine safe? Quote
rherold9 Posted February 8, 2017 Author Posted February 8, 2017 Still doesn't make sense why factory gets a tune but not restricted. Why not have min weight and power accounted for in factory or limited without a tune? Why not allow tuning and still keep the same min weight/power? Just don't get it. If they are worried about cheating or something then why is tuning allowed in factory? Similar vtec systems and such. Dunno. Stock ECU handling decatted exhaust and intake keep engine safe? Yeah sure pull timing, run rich or lean. That isn't ideal at all for a track car. Destroying plugs quicker and greater build up of carbon inside the engine as well as killing 02 sensors faster, etc... Quote
mcmmotorsports Posted February 9, 2017 Posted February 9, 2017 Sounds to me like you shouldn't buy that particular H2 car and maybe look for one that fits the ruleset for which you want. If you have suggestions about the rules, you can definitely submit your thoughts and ideas to the HC National Committee for review. However, there are many HC cars and owners currently in competition that are perfectly fine with how our rules are currently written. Quote

I'm just wondering why? The rules don't make too much sense in this situation to me. Quote

I'm not sure about the particular car you are considering, but most stock ECU use the O2 sensor to regulate the fuel flow to match the amount of air going through the engine. Intake and exhaust would have similar effects as driving from a hight, hot environment to a cold, sea level environment. Now that there is a turbocharged car in the Restricted prep list, I think that non stock ECU could open up a massive can of worms. Quote
