Transponder and Radio

I'm building an ST2 car for the Central Region, and I have a couple of questions. Are we required to have a transponder? If so, is the AIM transponder, the required transponder. Are we required to have a radio in the car? If so is AIM the only option?

Yep, you will need to have a MyLaps/AMB transponder. The x260, Flex or X2 are all OK. If you don't want to buy one right away, Central Region does rent them at their events.
