Any of the NASA Texas members have any advice on removing registration for you track car. In efforts to save money yearly on insurance and registration.

Questions Like: How is the car classified in the DMV?

Do you get to turn in the plates?

etc.

When my car became no longer street legal, I cancelled the insurance. The state did send an e-mail asking me to fill out an online questionnaire on why I no longer had insurance. "Off road use only - Racecar" seemed to be adequate as they never contacted me again.

When the registration\plates came due, I didn't renew. They haven't asked for the plates back yet. I also removed the registration and inspection stickers.

I did hear at MSR-C if you fail to remove your plate when you trailer your car the Toll-Tag folks will charge you both for the trailer and the car on the trailer if the car ever had a toll-tag and they can match it up the plate.

This is correct. Car I purchased several years ago I moved on an open trailer this spring. Prior owner contacted me because he got toll charges from it and asked me to destroy the plate.
