Don Trask Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 Beaverun Race Report Western Pennsylvania May 10-11-2003 Two CMC car made their debut at this new 1.53 mile track in Pennsylvania. Tim La Plante a CMC transplant from California, now living in Indianapolis trailed his 1994 Mustang arriving in a big rain storm Friday night. Don Trask brought his 1987 Mustang from Mooresville North Carolina, a two day trip also in some heavy storm conditions. Beaverun was just completed and the pit area was like a pool of red mud. Twenty one AI & AIX cars all very nicely prepared, many with enclosed trailers and lots of pit crew personal. This AI group was well organized by the two Directors from the Indiana/Ohio and the Virginia regions Their racing schedules are different than how we run our events in California. The practice, qualifying and races each day where all ½ hour in length. I asked why they do not run two races a day or at least try for a three race weekend like here in California?. They said that they are considering that next year. There were very few brake downs in the AI group not like what AI is experiencing here on the left Coast. The track was fast with twelve turns. The back straight away was down hill in 5th gear with two kinks and a forty mile an hour 110 degree turn which entered on to the front straight away. Lots of elevation changes on the rest of the course. Saturday’s qualifying had La Plante qualifying at 21st and finishing 19th in the race. Trask qualified 18th and finished the Saturdays race in 12th. Racing was quite close in mid pack and from 11th back to 19th the margin was only 2.9 seconds. Sundays race was short for Trask as he cut a tire about the halfway into the race going into turn eleven. Tim La Plante managed a 16th after some good dicing with slower AI cars in the back of the back. The weather cleared for both days and when Beaverun completes the back half of this race course this will be one of the more technical courses in the North East. AI and the faster AIX cars have made great progress on the East Coast, good strong well prepared cars and I hope that CMC will catch on as there are lots of potential racers that can’t afford the $ and horse power race that is taking place with the AI group. Both Tim and I had several inquiries about growing the CMC program and we look forward to talking to any interested racers. Let’s hear from you! Quote
Guest Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 I am very intereted in the cmc events. I live in OH and defiantly can't afford the AI series of racing. I have an 88 lx and cmc looks like it is perfect for the type of racing I want to do. What is the progress looking like for having cmc for the oh/in region? Quote
Tony G Posted September 14, 2003 Posted September 14, 2003 You have an excellent way of getting into CMC by contacting Tim La Plante. He knows everything about CMC and lives in Indiana. Tim used to run with us when he lived in California. Give him a call at 317-669-7135 Good Luck! Tony Guaglione CMC Chief Director Quote
