Just talked to a guy who ran Fernley, and he said the track was really smooth and fast.Takes about 1 minute to do a lap.

Are you going??Don't forget to register.

Maybe we will go out on Saturday night to Reno to check out the awesome cars on display for Hot August Nights, otherwise we can have a pool party and then all go out to dinner .

See you there!

I just talked to the guys rebuilding my shocks, and it doesn't look good for me getting the car back together in time. I guess missing a weekend will help me budget wise... Maybe we'll take a ride out anyway and cheer from the sidelines. I'll let you guys know.

I'm planning on going. We'll find out how healthy our tow vehicles are goin' up the hill!

Bring on the tow vehicle challenge!

I don't think there's any holdup on the shocks Nick, just the regular time it takes. The box showed up at the shop on tues afternoon, wed morning the told me they needed two to three weeks to do what I want. So, its possible I'll get them back in time, but not very likely.

Oh, and I'll take that tow vehicle challenge

Maybe we are going to have to compete with those tow vehicles by year of manufacture- anyone else got a strong 100K+mi GM?

Al, next time say you are Michael Schumacher. You'll get your shocks the next day!

Just Follow my 2003 F-250 Powerstroke/Hypertech up the hill, and don't worry I'll take it slow so you can keep up with me..Just like I do when I'm racing....

Al,

You can come out and pit for me,and bring a few extra engines.

Greg Robinson,

I'll buy you dinner, for you being the longest hauler out there!

That's it, I'm getting a kit for my GM then .

See, that's why we have rules in CMC! Don't worry Nick, Tony's rig has to pull over every 10 miles to add water, just like when we're racing.

My 95 Powerstroke dually /stick shift will make it there and with better fuel mileage than any of the newer trucks..

Love the Chevys at the track...Love the Fords to get them there.

So Far we have 4 people signed up...are you kidding me??

I had a count of 14,but only 4 are registered.

Let me know if your going.

Thanks,

Tony

Tony, Count me in I just finished registering.

Per, What kind of mileage are you getting with that ford/navistar/internation? My duramax tows at about 13mpg

Nick, There are some really great kits out there for the duramax, you can get to 750 ft. lbs for a few hundred dollars.

Mike..

This might sound weird.. I get about 10-12mpg going north..13-15mpg going south...And seems just the same as my private pilot friends experience..The way the wind moves I been told..

And getting rid of my camper to make room for 5-th wheel trailer..So tow to Reno will be no big deal..

Chroist! Warn a guy before you say stuff like that. Now I gotta clean Diet Pepsi off my keyboard.

Mike,

I get 13 mpg towing at 70 mph, best so far was 14.8 at 60 mph.My trailer weighs over 9,000 pounds loaded.

Here is the list so far.

Trask

Guaglione

Helldin/Graves

Stone

Morin

Plum

Steel

Pfaff

Robinson

Varon

Arnheiter

Should be at least 5 more that I have talked to(Bergman,Stowell,Bullock,Ellison...and any other slow registering racer who just can't decide to go yet).

Interesting MPG factoid: I get 13 mpg in the Denali without the trailer. I get the same 13 mpg WITH the trailer.

I guess it's just more efficient loaded?

Tony, I won't be at Reno. Too many miles, too few $$. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for T-hill.

I thought I was the only wierd one. I have consistently gotten better milage towing south('91 F350 460 5-speed for sale too!) than going north. Also, my 2000 silverado 1500, 5.3 (I rarely tow with this) got better milage with a loaded trailer attached. It was on flat ground only. I would be though that if I loaded it up with as much gear as I do my ford the milage would suffer and it would probably have a hard time on the hills.

You guys are not crazy!

I went to Buttonwillow and got 14 mpg + towing and then went home ( north) and got 12 mpg at the same speed.

There are more gentle hills going north and this kills the mpg.

I get 18.2 not towing at 70 MPH.

Hey, Tony...I thought the speed limit with a trailer is 55mph...you guys spend way too much money on your tow vehicles and trailers....my battered old black 1991 Dodge one ton van gets 19.5 miles per gallon of the cheapest regular gas, can be used as a Motel 6 in a pinch, camoflages several thousand dollars of wheels, tires, etc in a $125 EArl Scheib paint job and was obtained from a beer company auction for $1200 (and it still has the tapper stubs on the side for the next CMC race)....I think I have less in my tow vehicle than Tony has in head gasket changes in his CMC Mustang!....save your money and spend it on your race cars and driving lessons!...rp..and have fun in Reno

Richard

After the way you describe your tow vehicle I understand why you seldom go much farther than Laguna Seca to race.

Posted

nah, when we're this close to Laguna we just throw a dealer plate on the race car and drive it over the Los Laureles grade to the track...get in an extra 15 minutes practice time that way....hey, our last tow vehicle was a 1 ton Dodge van I bought new in 1975 with a cube box on it and it went back and forth to the SCCA Runoffs (when they were in Atlanta) three times....I finally sold it for $100 last year with over 300,000 miles on it...so the '91 is good for another decade or two...rp
