Mustang guys, brakes

Those that drive Mustangs, what are you doing for brakes? I know Baer makes a legal setup, but I was looking for less expensive alternatives. Not sure at the moment if I will switch to the SN95 spindle, but its looking more and more like I am going to.

I have heard of turning the 13" cobra rotor down to 12", but how is the durrability after doing this? What do you do for calipers?

How would the 11" brakes work with the new 99+ GT/V6 PBR 2 piston calipers?

What about for the rear? The 94+ GTs had solid rotors, I'm not too wild about that. I know the cobras had 11.65" vented rotors. I have thought about using the camaro rear calipers on a cobra rear rotor. Or maybe I'll just use the factory Mustang rear caliper.

ugh

Eric,

Baer uses stock cobra rotors and turns them down 1/2 inch so no problems with that.

I say buy a set of rotors for $55 each from Kragen/AutoZone and turn them down yourself.Put on the stock front Cobra PBR brake set up with sn95 spindles and your done.

Rears, just use the stock rear Mustang disc set up since 90% of your braking is up front. I have this set up and it works really well.

No need to put on the rear cobra set up.

How does one go about turning down the diameter of the rotors? Can it be done on the same machine that turns rotors or will a machine shop have to do it? My access to a lathe is limited, so I don't know when I would be able to get rotors done. I guess I could buy 2 or 3 sets and have them all done at once so I will have spares.

Did you have to modify the caliper brackets any for them to work with the smaller rotors?

Thanks,

Eric

Eric,

I take my rotors to the local machine shop to take off the 1/2 inch.

You will need to drill and tap the brackets 1/2 inch inwards (also done at my machine shop).

This is exactly how Baer does it.
