Kent L
It is a pleasure to announce the formation of CMC-East. CMC-East will be running events within the Virginia region and the new NASA Southeast region for the final race of the 2003 season and the entire 2004 season. We currently have 3 cars on track for the remaining 2003 event and already have 6 fully committed cars/drivers for the 2004 season. We look forward to running one or more combined events with the Ohio-Indiana group run by Tim Leplante. For additional information visit us at www.cmceast.com Special thanks to Tony G., CMC Chief Director, for spending a tremendous amount of his time working with us throughout the startup process. In addition, thanks go out to Jim Pantas, SE Region Director, and owner of INFOLINA, whose company is hosting our site and has been a supporter of our efforts from the beginning. Chatim Racing
Hi Kent: You can make that 7 committed cars for 2004. I can't promise that I will be able to make it to all of the races but I will definitely make it to as many of the southeast ones as possible (I live in Florida). Would love to see CMC expand to FL in 2005. I plan to race my old IMSA Firestone Firehawk Camaro (I used to race in IMSA from 86-91). Looking over the rules, my car is definitley eligible with little modifications necessary (= no big $$!!). Look forward to meeting you and racing with you guys. Kent L
Charlie, Welcome aboard!! I have been contacted by many potential drivers that wish to run Southeast races. Early indications look as if the Southeast may be able to support an additional CMC field shortly into their 2004 schedule. Perfect timing for you to join. Let's touch base soon so we can discuss where we are with everything. I look forward to meeting & speaking to you soon. Kent Please shoot me an e-mail with your contact info. BobWitmer
I think I'm going to buy a 1988 ex-Wisconsin Mustang Police Inteceptor. Looks like it has factory long tube headers w/ H-pipe cross over connect and no cats or mufflers in a dimpled pipe exhaust, dual rear sway bars(?) and Tokico (?) shocks. There is no emissions pump, just an original looking idler pulley in its place. The car looks, because of old patina rust, as if all these changes from a normal 88 are from the factory. Aside from safety equipment like roll cage, belts, racing seat, battery shut off toggle, etc, what is needed to run this car in your East Coast series? Is it O.K. to run with additions to equipment listed above, but NO DELETIONS?
Kent L
Bob, Do me a favor and send me your e-mail address and contact info and we can touch base directly. Your car seems to be really close to the letter of rules, I would like to know a little bit more about. I look forward to hearing from you. Guest
I met David Smith this past weekend at Roebling Road at a Solo I. I'm ready to finish the cage in my 95 Z28 and come play with you guys in CMC! Hopefully I'll get to meet the rest of you at Nashville in March. Have been club racing with SCCA a little (not in the Camaro), but I like the grassroots attitude and rules set here. Plus, I get to race my first-choice car! indycmc
Cary - good to hear that we're getting some cars lined up for the Nashville event - even if they're Camaros I'll be there.
Kent L
Cary, Your Camaro will be a serious player in this series, you will have a blast. The Camaro Mustang Challenge seems to be a very popular series right off the bat in the SE, your car will be a great addition. I look forward to meeting you at Nashville or Road Atlanta. If any questions come up while your getting the car ready, shoot me an e-mail. Welcome to the series!! BTW.... Great name for a race driver. CQuickZ28
Thanks for the replies, guys, I can't tell you how excited I am that the CMC is coming to the southeast. This is the series I've been pissed that SCCA doesn't have. And, I've spent an awful lot of $$ preparing a Solo car, now I can put it to some good use! It's just a hop skip and a jump from ESP to CMC. The IT7 project is now on the back burner... And Tim, keep the Ford vs. Real Cars smack talk going. In case you're not close enough to read it, it says "Camaro" between the taillights. Cary
Lady in Nomex
Welcome Cary! More power to you in laying down that GM smackdown!!!!! Your compadre out west.......
Kent L
Cary, Please don't leave me out of the smack. I am really tired of my old fox body beating up on the 3rd gens. Your 4th gen would really make racing against Camaro's a hair more challenging. Seriously, give Jim Pantas a call, he is the regional director of the SE region, he can fill you in on the best way to get a provisional NASA license if you don't already have one. His contact info is below. I hope to see you at either Nashville or Road Atlanta. Talk to you soon, Kent Jim Pantas 704-791-9375 [email protected]
Tony G
Funny thing is, the only time I have ever seen the rear of a Camaro is when I'm lapping them..for the second time... Tony
CQuickZ28
Oooh, yeah, this is gonna be fun!!!! I love the little puppy-dog face Mustang drivers get when they were talking big before the race... It is all in fun guys, I for one know there's not a nickel's worth of difference in two properly set up cars, it's all in the driving. Looking forward to more friendly rivalry, and meeting you all! Time to get off the computer and into the garage. Later, Cary
Tony G
Cary, You hit it right on the nose..it's the driver and not the car, which is why this is such a great series! Good luck in 2004. Tony Guaglione CMC National Director
indycmc
For those of you who don't know, Tony has won in both Camaros and Mustangs, so he can vouch for the Driver versus vehicle - though I know that he really prefers the Mustang
