David Borden1548534711 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 Have an idea for a low cost heim/mono ball lower control arm bushing but dont know the diameter. If it is 1.5 inch or over, it would be possible to do it for approx $150.00 Same goes for the mustang! David Quote
bsim Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 OR, does anyone know if the 4th gens are the same as the 3rd? I have a set of 3rd gens in the garage that I could measure... Quote
racercosmo1548534707 Posted January 27, 2004 Posted January 27, 2004 It is possible with Mustangs. I have a set of monoball a arms from the A Sedan days. Quote
David Borden1548534711 Posted February 1, 2004 Author Posted February 1, 2004 Either way, if you 3rd gen guys are interested in monoballs in your lca, the measurement would be helpful. David Quote
Members Al F. Posted February 2, 2004 Members Posted February 2, 2004 Both of my spare arms have bushings in them, so this measurement wont be exactly right. That said, it should help you continue your concept. When you get further along, we can press the bushings out of one of these. Anyway, I don't know their names, but... The one with horizontal hole has an OD of 1.7 for the bushing that is in it. I measured this with a caliper on the bushing tube between the two ears of the arm. The one with the vertical hole has an OD of 2.13 for the bushing that's in it. I measured this again with a caliper, on the bushing as it sticks out of the top of the arm. It gets pressed in from the bottom. Dibs on the first production set Quote
Richard Pryor1548534703 Posted February 2, 2004 Posted February 2, 2004 Before everyone spends time and $$$ on this project, how about a clarification of heim jointed suspension bushings....as I read it only the bearing MATERIAL is open for bushing replacement, not the design type....stock bearing design is solid...not a heim joint...I seem to remember that there was a Camaro that had the rear control arms with bushings replaced with heim joints and it was deemed a no-no...oh, wait, that was me! (at least in Showroom Stock we hid them by cutting the outer rubber off the stock bushing and using that as a visual fakeout...but I digress...richard Quote
Tony G Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Richard just beat me to it but is totally correct. Bushing material only, anything else and you get the big DQ. Remember this word: STOCK Tony Quote
David Borden1548534711 Posted February 3, 2004 Author Posted February 3, 2004 the bushing material is the only thing changed... it just happens to be metal in the shape of a ball and socket.(monoball) This is actually a really cheap change. Probably less than $150 for both front control arms and it works on mustangs too I guess I dont understand the interpretation. (certainly not trying to cause trouble) another quick question on this topic. The car I just bought has GW rear lower control arms with heims in front and back. Im guessing these are also illegal? David Quote
Tony G Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Correct, those are also illegal. You can however weld them to take out any adjustment, but if your measurement would be off, then another DQ. I would use the correct ones to avoid any future problems in tech (just my input here). One more thing, Don't spend any time trying to make your car totally trick,CMC's fastest cars are usually the most stock ones, but have one big advantage... and it's by who is sitting behind the wheel. Tony G Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Sorry Nick and David. The discussion has not been heard by all the directors, therefor give me a day or so to hear out everyone. Thanks, Tony Quote
Tony G Posted February 3, 2004 Posted February 3, 2004 Update. No Heim joints on the front A Arms, or anywhere else not specified in the rules. Tony Quote
racercosmo1548534707 Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 Can the control arm bushings be solid type, such as del-alum? Quote
Tony G Posted February 6, 2004 Posted February 6, 2004 Yes,and the ones David had on here are also fine. David you can post it again if you would like to. Sorry for the yes and no answers but its all cleared up now. Carry on... Thanks, Tony Quote
