Snakin
Yes I know, probably not the best place to ask questions about a BMW but I figure I should get some honest anwers so here goes anyway. I'm possibly looking at getting a commuter/HPDE car and I've come across a 1994 BMW 325is Coupe for what appears to be a decent price. The car has a lot of miles on it (145000) already which doesnt concern me much cos' I will probably put 600-800 miles a week on it anyway. and it may run around in a couple of HPDE events. I know very little about the Beeemers so I just wondered if anyone might share an opinion or experience with this car/model, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any advise See YA Brett
Lady in Nomex
I don't know much about them either, however, the folks I know usually take their used BMW purchase candidates to the local BMW aftermarket shops for an evaluation. Well worth the $.
gold chains and oakleys
Hi Brett: I have owned to M3's one a 97 and one a 98..Between both cars, they have been to the track over 25 times...Never a single problem..I would seriosly shop for a 97 M3..It is a far superior car than the 3 series, gets clse to 30mpg, and have had 0 problems and have put over 100K miles between the two..If you put a set of Kumhos or Toyos you will be faster than any CMC car, and that is bone stock...They are the best track cars for the money, and perfect street cars...If you are going to buy a normal 3 series, by a Nissan Maxima..they are faster and cheaper... Thats my two cents..
Tony G
Hey wait a minute here Brady..I see by the results that we are beating some M-3's out there by a few seconds..including yourself!! Be nice Mr gold chains...He He Tony
Members Al F.
Although I agree with Brady that the mid 90s M3s are one of the best dual purpose cars, I think the 3series may be a better bang for the buck. M3s are much more money, and cost more to insure. If 95% of the car's duty is commuting, the 325is will be fine. Brett, I came close to buying a 3 series. 93 is the last of the E30, 94s are E36, which have a lot of nice upgrades, but also problems of their own. Expect to do a fair amount of maintenance on a car with that many miles (subframe bushings, susp. bushings, shocks, etc). Dont pay a premium for an is over an i since all of the incremental parts will need to be replaced anyway. There are a bunch of good 3series forums, faqs, etc. I can send you some info if you want. gold chains and oakleys
Brett: I just looked up the Blue for a 97 M3 with 90K...it is $12K...I am not sure what your price range is, but you probably could find one with over 100K for less than $10K..You are not going to save any money maitenance wise between a standard 325 and an M3. The only thing more is Tires..The only thing I have replaced on my car has been rotors, and they were $140 for the pair...wait a minute that is cheaper than the CMC cars..My buddy has one with 140K on it, and it would still beat any of the CMC cars, and he has only done rotors and a clutch..If anything huge goes on either a 325, or an M3, it may be costly, but very comparable.. Oh yeah, Tony, I will spend $1K for a bolt on cage, and put Toyos on it if you let me run a CMC race with it. Here is the catch..I will drive the car to whatever track (no trailer), play whatever CD you would like me listen to, and run the air condition the entire race...If I win (and I know I will because the cars are SO much better) you have to pay for the cage and the tires...I will then put my CDs in that I like, keep the air on, and simply drive 80mph home getting 28mpg...I will have to stop by your house so you can wash it so that I can take a date out...Now, that is a true car! Multi Purpose, no tow vehicle, no work. I know we are supposed to pimp our own series, but that is how good I think completely stock M3 is. But thank God chicks dig Camaros! I going to take a look at the 325 on offer, and do a little more research on both models before I decide. Al, those bmw websites/forums etc would be interesting, please forward them on when you can. Thanks again all Brett ps: if i get a BMW, I'll probably have to sell a 96 Cobra! now thats a whole new discussion

racercosmo1548534707
This is just a reminder to you folks. A Beemer is a motorcycle, a Bimmer is a car.
Snakin
ok, so after the responses & some initial research I am trying to balance all of this and have come across a couple of 1995 M3s which I'm going to investigate further. Maybe one of them will be a good combination of price/performance/bang for buck etc! thanks again for the comments and suggestions on the beemers/bimmers
Lady in Nomex
The M3 is probably my favorite all around car. Get the groceries and tear up the track!

Snakin
Thanks for the offer, right now I'm seriously looking at a '95 M3 that I might get a good deal on so we'll see how that goes. If it doesnt work out I may come back to you to find out more about your 325. Thanks again Brett
