NightWulf
I am coming home from Iraq here in the soon winter months. I found out about the CMC thru my father. We are both really interested in starting a racing team but well quite honestly umm.. we.. or I would like some friendly advice if anyone cares to give some. I already planned on buying a 90-92 camaro ( that should be a given ) but I an new to the race scene. I can build cars and drive em like a bat outta hell, but the tech stuff and other aspects about racing i am ignorant about. Hey nobody's perfect. I am looking at staying in the SAC area. NightWulf
whats the $$$ amount and give me some specs if you don't mind. i was looking at forward to building one, but if it'll be cheaper to buy i just might.
bsim
$8500 gets you everything you need to get on the track, including the trailer and some small spares. This is a car that ran all weekend in 100* heat at Willow Springs with only windshield washing. All the goodies are listed HERE. I wanted to build a car when I got into CMC, but the majority of the advice I got then, and still believe now, is to buy an existing car, and spend the smaller $$ on adapting the car to your style. From what I've seen and heard, you spend roughly twice as much doing it from scratch. Plus, you'll still need to shake it down, and tune it after that anyway. But if you still want to build, you'll find a TON of helpful people on this site!
NightWulf
well I do like it. lokos clean. save me alot of hassle. Why you sellin it anyways?
Snakin
I can verify that buying an existing race ready car at that price is definately a great deal. I did go the other route and built one, and the $$$$ certainly come out to be more than you think
Richard Pryor1548534703
If you're as fast a driver as you profess you aren't going to enjoy riding around in the back of the pack in a self built CMC car while you sort it out and learn what it takes to make it fast....and spend twice as much money building a car vs. buying one....if you love to spend nights and days in the garage and just won the find Osama lottery then by all means build a car...but...if you want to get out there as cheap as possible, buy a race ready car like Brad's...his is absolutely the best deal out there with all the work he's done to it and it even comes with a trailer and spares...heck, his car is so good I could jump into it after a two year retirement and blow the doors off Tony's Mustang at our Sears Point shootout in a few weeks...by the way...don't bother with a Mustang; you'd be giving up a second a lap in speed and handling...if you think you can build a car and buy a trailer and the spares package Brad has for less than the $8500 he's asking then you've been smoking some really good stuff in Iraq (and I want some too)...tongue in cheek aside...if you're serious (or anyone else reading this post and thinking about CMC racing) this car is the best deal out there...make Brad and his wife a happy couple and wire him the money....Bubba Gurney

Kevin Hall
Andy, We're like you, we like to build our own cars. We built the #82 Camaro, and it cost about 3 times what I planned. I would agree that if you don't already have a trailer, Brad's car seemed like a smokin' deal when he told me how much he wanted for it. We were runnning real close to each other all weekend at Willow Springs, and I'm not even sure he washed the windshield! The down side is you don't get the fun of building your own car, and sorting it out, which is part of what my son and I like to do, but then again we're pretty strange. We had also built 2 entry level stock cars in the past, so had some experience doing that sort of thing before we started. Hope to see you at Sears in Septmeber. Kevin Hall #82 G&H Racing Camaro ps. Richard's right about Camaro's are better than Mushtangs. The other things to consider are Chevy parts are always cheaper than Ford parts, for when it comes time to go to the parts store, and Camaro's are just way better looking than Mustangs. Tony G
Holy crap, now we have another Chevy crusader. I challenge any Chevy to even come close to any Mustang at Infineon..Its just never going to happen..especially Richards car. The Mustangs will just pull away from the field, heck I'm thinking of putting my A/C back in the car since I just dont need the extra power to run over the Camaros. Mustangs are one thing..Camaro Killers Tony
Richard Pryor1548534703
you mean you took your A/C OFF!? we Camaro guys like our luxury and always race with the A/C on max and the CD player booming out the theme from GRAN PRIX....I guess we could go faster in less comfort but why? bolt a roll cage in, put on a set of Toyos and there isn't a fully prepared Mustang that can stay close, as I'll be demonstrating at Sears Point to Tony and any other deluded individual watchiing as I humiliate the Mustang brand...Brad...want me to use your car for 3 laps to annilate Tony's mustang? that ought to sell the sucker. ...CAPTAIN COLD
Kevin Hall
Now I know my problem. I've been playing the old song from Days of Thunder when I'm racing. You know the oldy but goody capped off when he hits the pit wall and says "uh oh, this is gonna hurt." Of course, sometimes, like at Buttonwillow when everyone hit everything, I start whistling like Richard Dreyfus in Always. ps, hitting the wall hard in an old stock car....does hurt. pps I STILL WANNA RACE, WANNA RACE, WANNA RACE. Members Al F.
Well theres your problem Kevin...your car doesn't know its SUPPOSED to turn right!
Adam Ginsberg
I can verify that buying an existing race ready car at that price is definately a great deal. This is a very true statement. Many local ( DFW ) guys have learned this lesson the hard way. I bought an already prepared car ( needed some minor changes ), and it was competitive right out of the box. Definitely the way to go. bsim
I think the Fernandez car has been talking to John Force lately - it doesn't know you're supposed to turn at all!!!
Kevin Hall
Good one, Brad. Heck the way my power steering was acting, I was lucky to turn at all. I had to pretend I was at Perris and keep the car sliding to get any assist at all. Hey, has any one heard of collapsing the power steering lines, causing the assist to come in and out? Someone suggested that was the problem we've been having. Putting a cooler in helped some, but not completely. Someone else suggested we use ATF rather than P/S fluid. I've heard of this in the past, but it also caused problems when I tried it in the Chevelle oval cars. Kevin #82 Camaro The problem happened at Willow Springs going through 1, 2 and 8. Richard Pryor1548534703
Kevin...we always replaced the pressure line regularly...they fail regularly, the earliest ones blew at the fittings...new lines and synthetic ps fluid solved all our problems...a remote reservoir of increased size helps too but a cooler is best...or a KRC pump...rp
Tony G
I put in the valvoline synthetic power steering fluid, and from that point on I have never had a problem. Before doing that I had tons of problems. Tony
Kevin Hall
Thanks, we'll put in new lines, and synthetic fluid. That was about the only thing we didn't use synthetic, oh well.
Members Al F.
Kevin...power going in and out is almost always a symptom of overheated fluid. If the lines are going to fail, without a doubt they'll fail by blowing fluid everywhere, not by collapsing and not allowing flow. Keep in mind our PS pumps are designed for full boost at close to idle. We run at close to redline all day long. We're simply pumping too much fluid, creating too much heat. Put a cooler in there, and use synthetic fluid only. You can also underdrive the PS pump to slow it down.
