Keith
I put new front rotors and pads on my 4th Gen soon-to-be CMC car yesterday. With the 3rd gen wheels on there, the wheels no longer clear my LS1 calipers. They fit with worn pads and rotors but not brand-new of both. I just checked the 2005 ruleset and didn't see a reference to wheels spacers so I think I already know the answer. However, just so that I know my options before making my next move - are spacers permitted? Thanks.
Tony G
Yes,you can use the spacers, and I do know what you mean about the fronts that are touching. You only need a small spacer to get them to clear. I do run spacers and I do like the idea of putting in 3" wheel studs also. Good luck, and thanks for asking. Keith
Wow. Cool. I guess I'll be looking for some tiny spacer. Thanks.
Members Al F.
Keith...I would strongly urge you to run the extended and stronger ARP studs. Stock wheel studs are complete junk on these cars, and they're only marginally long enough with the factory wheel as it is.
Keith
Actually, my intention is to drive the car to work (etc.) and wear down the pads/calipers so that I don't have to run a spacer. However, I will get one just in case. I also recognize that I should buy some quality studs (ARP, or other) and that should happen before the start of the next season. Keith
The smallest spacer that I can find is 7/32" at Summit Racing. Anyone aware of a source for smaller ones, say 1/8"?
fastjohn
A trick we used on another race car was to cut the center out of old drum brakes! The are very cheap and anyone with a brake lathe can cut them out for you. They are also very close to 1/8 inch. Add two or three to get different thicknesses. This is another possibility when I replace the drums on my trailer. Since the spacers were only $10, I went ahead and ordered the 7/32's for now. Adam Ginsberg
I found a set of 1/4" spacers @ O'Reilley's earlier this year.
