Adam Ginsberg
Posed by a CMC'er under construction. Must a competitor maintain the factory vacuum booster, or can they change to a manual setup? IIRC, the very early Fox3 cars were manual. As such, a competitor is allowed to back date - making a manual setup legal. Yes/no?
Tony G
Yes, if the Mustang came stock with manual brakes, then the update/backdate applies. So I would make sure you have proof to cover yourself to this fact and then you would be good to go. Tony
Adam Ginsberg
I'll verify if the early Fox3 cars came with manual brakes. Thanks.
Tom Beverly
I have a 1980 Mustang parts car with OEM manual brakes...
MattB1548534715
Manual brakes were definitely available on the early foxes. I have seen several cars equipped with them in the junkyards. I am curious as to what the advantages might be on a road race car? I'm a newbie, so cut me some slack!
Tony G
I've driven both ways, and I would go with the power brakes, no question at all..a huge difference with factory power brakes. Tony

I've never been on a road course with manual brakes, but I can't imagine why anyone would backdate their car just so they could run the manual set up on their race car. Is there something secret with these manual brakes that I don't know about?
Members Al F.
Maybe this way you can consider driving your car the same level of exercise as going to the gym. Hey, look into manual steering too...
bsim
Hey, does that mean I can convert to manual steering? I know it came standard on Camaros - so what if it was years ago...no more PS cooling issues!
Snakin
I think you may have some weight problems converting to these systems. I mean even with the lightweight versions, 3 people in one car could slow things down a bit. 1 Manuel braking, 1 Manuel steering and you as the driver, I just dont know if it would work! ps: sorry to any Manuels out there, no offense intended. Guest
I think I'm going to try and set the record for fastest manual braked, manually steered car at the track. Sure, I'll be the only one, but even if I lose I still win!:)
