GT4Point6 Posted October 29, 2006 Posted October 29, 2006 After changing my clutch, these tips may help when the tranny has to be pulled. Some general info; It's heavy coming in at 109 pounds dry. T45 came in the 96-01 GT and the 3650 came in mid year 01-04. Early models are called Borg Warner, bought out by Tremec somewhere around 99 and got a new label, not much else changed. The T45 uses a 10.5 and the 3650 uses a 11" clutch. Shifters are not interchangeable. T45 bellhousing is bolted on from the inside so the tranny cannot be separated from the bellhousing until after the whole unit is pulled. Pull the starter before the exhaust. This makes the pax side lower exhaust bolt much easier. Before, if you can get to them or after you pull it, cut off the two "ears" on each side of the bellhousing. They are not used once it's installed. Must be a factory thing. They hit the tranny tunnel and make it very difficult in getting the tranny out and back in. I heard of this tip a while ago and forgot until after I got it back in. The two long tranny-to-motor bolts go through the holes that have the alignment dowels in them. Any other hole and they will bottom out before the head contacts the bellhousing. Drivers side top bolt can be taken out from under the car. Pax side top bolt is easier from the top behind the motor with a ratchet wrench. Jack with some type of platform is a must do to the weight of the tranny. Quote
