fastjohn Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Yes another CMC car will try the 25. Keith Drake's #48 Mustang will be in group E1. We are under the name of TEAM DAN LAWSON. This is a cooperative effort between FFR and CMC, in which we have help from both camps! Come on out and keep us awake. By the way the race starts this Saturday at eleven a.m., and finishes at 12 noon Sunday. Quote

r k drake Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 Man, I can't beleive it's finally here, just a few days a way and the whole team feels totally pumped to do this thing. The crew has done a incredible job of prepping the car, transmission cooler and differential cooler was added, brake ducts front and rear, tons of great ideas incorporated, we all feel good about our chances. Really want to thank everyone for their support as well, Brady went off and got donations based on laps completed for over 12k for disadvantage children in Sacramento, Doug had decals made for all of the companies involved. It's going to be a great effort and all are welcome to come by, the CMC guys and girls are the coolest! Quote

Redding CMCer Posted December 1, 2006 Posted December 1, 2006 Just a quick note about the #48 CMC Mustang. I just talked to Keith Drake and the team is very excited and ready for the race to start. They have been at Thunderhill since Wednesday and things are going great. Practice today went well and the car seems to be just where the team wants it to be. Need I say that if you can possibly stop by for the race either Sat. for the 11:00 a.m start or Sunday for the 12 noon finish or anytime in between feel free to come root the #48 Lawson Bros. Racing Mustang on to the podium. And remember we are racing for the kids! Good luck to the whole team! Gary Quote

Carson Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 report as of 5 pm ....# 48 has experienced a clutch /trans problem after running strong 2:07's the first 5 hours.. trans is being replaced and will be back out on track shortly.... will update as info comes in thru da hot line... Quote
r k drake Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Update on the Race, First of all, I cannot thank the CMC guys and Cobra guys for their unbeleivable work over the 25! Scott, John, and Gary plus a host of another 18 people worked their butts off virtually all night Saturday and Sunday. I'll try to give a brief report on the race, as Carson mentioned earlier, we had clutch problems , a word to the wise, if you chose to use a high dollar kevlar clutch, don't use it with a stock Mustang automatic adjuster, once the clutch wears a bit it will start slipping, appearing the be a bad clutch when in fact you just need a manual adjusting cable. First things first, there was a fuel delivery problem, we had chosen to install a 22 gallon fuel cell for safety and addtional capacity. Three laps into the race it started to starve for fuel which it had done the prior day, we thought the fuel return was not directed into the sump area, the night before we moved it and seem fine, wrong. Turned out the fuel pump was failing and then after replacement, the fuel pressure regulator needed to be adjusted as well. Everybody was cool and just worked the problem and got the car back out, running very good laps, everyone is cofident were not out of this thing, so the drivers put the race face on and do lap after lap, Brady runs a mid 2.06 in the dark!!!Dennis Hannel comes in saying the clutch may be slipping, Brady gets in and can barely make a lap, all assume the clutch has smoked, but no one smells the typical smell associated. Take it apart and decision is made to replace, also find the throw out bearing has failed, suspect the cable and replace it as well. After three hours or so of work, Brady goes back out and and continues to push despite the huge deficit. Racing goes into the night and about 1 AM, fifth gear is gone, come in to the pits, try to see if we can just not use 5th, wrong, sounds like a bucket of bolts being shaken...I' m trying to sleep to get ready for my stint and two drivers come in and give me the news, since were behind, maybe we should just load up, I tell that with Rich and Don as crew cheifs, they better get some sleep because they are going to get it back on the track, they find a trans and replace it in less than an hour or so, back in the car, fifth gear is not the close ratio in this box and its difficult to use, now worried about overrevving the engine, go ahead and make decison to use 5th anyway, do so for a couple of hours and now 5th is gone. Decide to carry on and buzz the motor for all its worth, valves floating lap after lap after the flag station on main straight, somehow we are making up laps on the competition, no one gives up, no one complains, everyone just picks up tools and fixes whatever does not work. Stress level rising, we are moving up in the overall as people crash, break and or go slow, we are just pinning the throttle and hoping, every driver is consistently turning between 2.07's and 2.10 with or without traffic, truly fun to watch Doug Davis passing cars inside, outside, whatever, just point and floor it. Two hours to go and we put Brady in the car, you'd think he would be tired, but he and the crew chiefs or cracking jokes while he is driving with one hand and passing people. One hour to go, entire crew is watching on the pit wall, willing the car on lap after lap, listening to the engine screaming in fourth gear down the entire front straight, fluttering as it passes redline lap after lap, all we can do is watch...Twenty minutes to go, Brady is drafting cars down the straight just to aggravate them, ten minutes, we all hold our collective breif hoping that nothing could go wrong now, countdown is on, lap counts down until the white flag comes out, crews are now allowed to cross pit lane and cheer the racers at the flag, Brady comes down doing his best Michael Schumacher impression and buzzing the wall to everyones applause in the crowd, race over, we finished the 25, results, 8th in class, 33rd overall out of a grid of 63. One amazing race, one amazing group of people. We spend an hour after the race planning on how we can fix issues that happened this year, one hell of a time![ Gotta go now and get some sleep..../img] Quote
Tony G Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 That is just simply AWESOME!!! Congrats to all of you guys! Tony Guaglione Quote

Lady in Nomex Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Wow!!!! Gotta tell ya I am not surprised a bit. You guys are awesome! Quote
r k drake Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Nearly asleep yesterday when I wrote the report, but I'll let Brady update you all on the donations he was able to put together for disadvantaged kids, maybe you all should ask him how he estimated how many laps might be complete, hehe...Everyone there races for fun, but having a higher purpose made it sweeter to finish. See you at the races! Quote
rcpilot92 Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 O.K. now that I've had some sleep We had a BLAST!! Again a big thank you to Keith for putting this together! To see the CMC folks and the FFR folks gel together was just awesome. Everyone pitched in and helped out in whatever we needed to get done... I believe we had some, if not the fastest pit times out there! I recall one fuel and driver change that was completed in 1 minute 30 seconds Keith, Brady, Doug and Dennis all are the men! What ever lap times we needed they provided and talk about being consistant....they were turning laps within an couple thousands of the each lap. To see the Mustang cross the finish was an awesome and moving moment!!! On to next year to show them what an American made car can do! Quote
Redding CMCer Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 My special thanks to Keith for letting me have one ofthe experiences of my life! All that he wrote was exact except he neglected to mention that HIS calm and positive demeaner was the motivation for me, if not all of us. Everyone knew that we were there for a purpose...for the kids...and everytime things seemed like too big a hill to conquer, I looked at keith and there was this smile and positive attitude and it made all the problems seem minor. I also want to thank all the ladies for their hard work feeding us for more than 25 hours, and it was all good. I especially want to thank all the new friends I made and tell them I like the way they laughed at some of my sleep deprived, blabbering, delerious tries at humor. You guys were truly great! Thanks to everyone. Gary Quote
