rzaron53 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I see in the rules that steering shafts and components are open. I just failed tech because of sloppy steering and its probably the rag joint. Can't find a OEM replacement anywhere, dealer sez its discontinued. I don't want to use a junkyard one. Any 3rd gen guys have any suggestions? Or am I the one with this problem? Is it safe to eliminate. I read somewhere that its only to damp steering box vibration. Not sure how severe that would be or if it would damage something else down the line. Let me know Thanks, -R 91 Z28 Quote
bsim Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Rag Joint Eliminator from UE. It's about 3/4 the way down the page. Jason is a member and former CMCr... Quote
Lady in Nomex Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Jason's rag joint eliminator is just for 4th gens I believe. I had no problem getting new rag joints for the third gen, I'll see where my shop was getting them. You'll like the car steering a lot better once you get that handled. If you have not rebuilt the whole rack rebuilt I would highly recommend that. Old third gens steer like drunks without that! Quote
rcpilot92 Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 AutoZone. PepBoys, NAPA etc carry them in the "Help" parts section, usually in a red and white package... they are pretty generic for all 70's and 80's GM products... somewhere around 9 bucks... Quote
Lady in Nomex Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Good news, Jason at http://www.unbalancedengineering.com/ will have third gen rag joint eliminators available just about any time now, keep checking his website. Quote
