RodeoFlyer Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 I know they say you get what you pay for, but how many guys are running this cage? I know especially with a unibody car weld-in is preferred for chasis rigidity. I'm just wondering if it will save my life. Has anyone gone over or crashed hard yet with one of these and if so how did it hold up? I know it's silly to waste $700 now and spend $1500+ later but the reality is for the moment my budget is limited. Quote
bsim Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 For what it's worth, I've run autopower in two of my cars. The first one was welded in, and the second I did in my 4th gen just to get on track. Later on in the year I had a custom cage built and sold off the Autopower. It's not "the best", but you will be legal and running. At the very least, ad a dash bar, and build in some proper door bars. Better yet, just don't crash or roll the car. Quote
Richard Pryor1548534703 Posted January 26, 2007 Posted January 26, 2007 The Autopower cage is the minimum level of protection you'll want on track...I've seen three serious crashes in SCCA SSGT Camaros in which these cages performed 100%...if cost is an object in getting started you can buy the Autopower boltin cage, weld it in, add door bars and a dash bar and spend around $900-1200 depending on you doing it or a shop and you should feel safe and secure on track...or spend around $3000 for a custom cage...our new CMC2 and CMC cars for 2007 have custom cages which are designed for safety and handling improvement...it's the old racing standard...how much do you want to spend? rp Quote
RodeoFlyer Posted January 26, 2007 Author Posted January 26, 2007 that's exactly the answer I was lookin for - thanks. I figured they wouldn't be approved if they were worthless, but real-world crash viability is what I wanted to hear about. $700 and a couple grand is a wide spectrum on a beginner's budget. Quote
Members Al F. Posted January 26, 2007 Members Posted January 26, 2007 You can definitely do just fine by getting an autopower cage and welding in a few add ons. Personally, I would spend two weekends on the sidelines chatting with the boys and hanging out. The money this saves will buy the cage you really should have. Quote
