TPetrosky
The legal, 1993 5.0 Cobra upper/lower intake manifold set appears to be identical to the GT 40 (Explorer) set except for the EGR spacer. It's a lot cheaper buying a GT 40 than a "Cobra" but are they legal?
King Matt1548534716
Some versions of the Explorer GT-40 lower are virtually identical to the Mustang lower, with the EGR and IAT ports, but the uppers are a little different cosmetically. I think this is going to be just like the GT40P cylinder heads. Even though the Explorer parts are cheaper and very similar, since they did not come on a Mustang, they are not eligible through the update/backdate clause unless a specific rules exemption is made to allow them. Tom, we missed you at Mid-Ohio. What's your schedule looking like for this season?
MHISSTC
I agree...not currently allowed as the rules are written. However, since this is a budget minded series, and the Explorer intakes are often cheaper and funtionally and dimensionally the same, although not cosmeticly and therefore not "exactly" the same as the Cobra intakes, I'm all for making a specific inclusion in the rules to allow them. Anyone want to officially suggest the change?
Tony G
At the end of the year anyone can make a rule change or update request for the next year. As of this year no Explorer intakes are allowed. Thanks, Tony Guaglione
TPetrosky
Thanks for the clarification, guys. If a racer decides to install a "Cobra" intake, can they purchase the replica one offered from FRPP or does it need to be original equpment F3ZZ-9424-C/D ? The replica number is M-9424-Z51. Just thought I'd check in case I ever run into a "cheap" replica on eBay or something. Thanks, Tom P.
Tony G
Sure, As long as the replica is the exact same as the orig one, I see no problem with that at all. Tony Guaglione
