stevepoe
Was wondering what kind of life everyone is getting from Toyos. I just ran my third event six races.still show the main tread grooves and didn't feel like the tires where loosing any grip. lap times didn't look that bad. was just wondering as I'm putting a fresh set on the car for nationals. Tony G
When you see the cords your done. Really, the Toyos are awesome and I have 3 year old tires on my car that have so many heat cycles on them I cant even count that high. Oh yeah, and I won a race on them at Infineon last month so they work and keep working. I always have an extra set on hand in case I have an issue with something but otherwise I never need to change much around. CMC#11
I get about 4 events out of a set of shaved 4/32's tires. (3 or 4 races / weekend) My very first set was full tread and I got 7 events out of them (about 45 heat cycles) but they started to loose their grip after the 5th event. I keep my old tires for practice days and run them until they cord.
mitchntx1548534714
"Toyos suck, but they suck for a very long time." Lou Gigliotti's crew chief, when asked how to the Toyos compare to a Hoosier. I still have a tire I used at NPR in 2005. I figure I will make 12 races this season on 6 tires.
bsim
If it weren't for two flat-spots acquired at CA Speedway, I'd still be on the set of 4 that I bought for last years nationals. The remaining 2 though will still be on the car again this year. It really depends on your driving style. But they do fall off about .5 - 1 second after 5-6 weekends or so. Then they'll pretty much stay that way until they cord.

Richard Pryor1548534703
if you want to be fastest on tires with no drop off...start with shaved to 3/32 and run for no more than 2 weekends...cycle those to practice tires...as noted Toyos DO drop off .5 second a lap or so...in CMC racing that can be 6 places on the grid!...where to you want to be? We like being on the pole. THE FASTEST CAMARO IN INFINITY! Richard Pryor

GT4Point6
If it weren't for two flat-spots acquired at CA Speedway, I'd still be on the set of 4 that I bought for last years nationals. I seem to remember that very well. Turn three was it?, late brake, lock up, collision avoidance, then off to the pits
bsim
Yup, 135ish, try not to hit Kevin or Mike coming off the oval diving inside. $400 worth of tires is a lot cheaper than it coulda been...
supermac
What about scuffing or seasnoning these tires? Does anybody do this and what or how do you do it?

King Matt1548534716
I always scrub in new Toyos by running them early in the weekend in the first practice, then let them sit overnight if I'm going to run them in the race the next day. Even shaved*, they are not at their best until they've had a couple of heat cycles in them, so I usually don't use the new ones in a qualifying session. *This is based on my experience shaving them to 4/32. I know some people are shaving them deeper than that (2 to 3/32) and they may react differently at that depth.
CMC#11
I do exactly as Matt: -Get them shaved to 4/32's -Run the 1st session on them and then pull them off the car to cool overnight -After that they are good to go
Carson
I asked the largest Toyo dealer out west about scubin new shaved toyos and he said...forget it ...bolt 'em on and go racin'
supermac
I have also heard it done both ways. I have tried the bolt them on way, I guess I will try the scuff them way, it shouldn't hurt anything.
