cmc35 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 This may have been discussed at Nats, or there may be a series of posts which I didn't find, so if this is a non-issue, please don't flame me... Toyo has been talking about phasing out RA1, to be replaced by R888. Is it correct to assume we will be able to "use up" any RA1s we have, at such time as the R888 becomes real? thanks, chris Quote
AllZWay Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I was wondering the same thing. I would hate to have a stock pile of tires that are un-usable. Quote
Glenn Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 i heard no talk of the R888 at Nats in any official way. i was not there in an official capacity, so i'm not sure that means much. as far as i know, the RA1's are the spec tire for 2008. Quote
GT4Point6 Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 I can say that one of the directors is looking into this to see if the RA-1 will be avail throughout the entire 08 season and then a decision will be made from there on use or replacement use of the r888 and a timeline for it. Quote
Glenn Posted September 24, 2007 Posted September 24, 2007 keep us updated. i have a half a season of tires as of now. Quote
Dave Schotz Posted September 25, 2007 Posted September 25, 2007 Minor issue could be tire sizes! They only come in 1 17" in size.. (235) and the rest all 18's! Should would end up costing a bunch to have everyone switch to 17's or 18's. Dave Quote

I'm pretty sure we wont go to 17's so that may solve itself unless they stop production on the RA1's. Quote
Tony G Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 The official tire is the RA1 and it is not changing and I have heard nothing to the fact that it will change. So its the RA1 for 2008. Unless Toyo does something drastic, there are no changes. Thanks, Tony Guaglione CMC National Director Quote
NickS Posted September 26, 2007 Posted September 26, 2007 I've been told to expect to see the R888 no earlier than early / mid 2009. -- Nick Quote
avgjoe Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 I saw in June/July this year that the R888's were to replace the RA1's in all sizes but they were to be phased in over the course of '08. I can't find that page now but I did find this http://marktg.toyotires.com/file/30029.pdf . Joe CMC in progress. Quote
tacovini Posted October 3, 2007 Posted October 3, 2007 From JWL (the guy who negotiates the Toyo contract with NASA) We won't see the R888 much until 2009 so the RA-1 is the order for 2008. -=- Todd Quote
