Roll cage design theory

You might find this hard to believe...but I needed a welder at the track the first two events of '07. First weekend to weld a phb chassis side mount that was starting to tear off the frame, and the second weekend to weld a hood pin back on that had pulled itself free from the radiator support! For the third weekend I pre-emptively struck by welding something on the day before I went to the track! (a right hand side head net)

No, I am not superstitious.

Next is a version that can travel to the track!!

230V generator, your MIG, and a small tank.

Not that hard to haul around if you have to. If I get another leaf added to the van, I'm going to start bolting the generator to the tongue of the trailer.

I really need to get one of those dirt track trailers with the tire rack and storage boxes

Sorry to get off topic just a smidge, but are you planning on leaving the sound proofing (insulation) in? I removed mine from the '96 I was working on and it was a move I still regret to this day.

Just my opinion, but I'd leave it in. It helps out a lot for noise, but I've also noticed that these guys generally need to add ballast to make weight. Why yank out weight if you only need to put it back in? Besides, the sound deadener is evenly distributed, and it's all down low, so I don't see how leaving it in could really hurt. Then again, I'm stupid on a daily basis.

The sound deadener around the foot wells and tunnel will turn into a gooey mess pretty quickly in a race car. It will collect dirt, tire rubber, rocks, etc. and get really nasty. You could leave it in the rear part of the car, but it all depends on how far you plan to prepare the car and how close you are to minimum weight. If you want to paint the interior and rollcage, it's best to remove it all, but it can be a big job to get it all down to bare metal.
