Myrv9520 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Hello, I am a newcomer to NASA and CMC2. I am planning to prepare via HPDE/TT during the first half of this year hoping that I will be qualified to compete the later part of this season in my CMC2 prepped 2004 Mach 1. I have a couple of questions for the members -- 1) I live in Indianapolis and was wondering if there are any CMC or CMC2 competitors that live in the central Indiana area; 2) on a specific car related question, does anyone have advice on how to best position the gas and brake pedals for heel and toe? I have modified the brake pedal pad by welding on a larger pad but have not found a satisfactory solution to get the gas pedal better aligned (oem position is drastically below the brake pedal) with the brake. Any advice greatly appreciated. Quote
King Matt1548534716 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Welcome. I'm guessing you are Larry Myrvold? We have CMC racers scattered around the Midwest and Ohio-Indiana regions, including the legendary Tim Laplante, who is right there in Indy. Maybe he will pop in and say hello! As to the second question, you can bend the gas pedal upward to some extent if you apply a little heat carefully, or add spacers under the pedal pad to raise it up. Quote
Keith Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Welcome. Though I am not in the Indianapolis area, I am another CMCer that you will likely be seeing at some point. Right now I am on the fence whether to run CMC or CMC2 but seeing another CMC2 car is helpful in making this decision. Move your pedals carefully. You don't want them close enough that you can clip the throttle when braking by accident. Quote
bsim Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Remove the brake pedal - it only slows you down. Quote
GT4Point6 Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Don't listen to Brad, he drives one of those pushrod thingies that doesn't go fast enough to need brakes... Anyway, I had tried the spacer on the throttle cable at the pedal and finally ended up with it stock on my 01 GT. Works best for me. Get some medal pedal covers and ditch the rubber covers if you still have them. Quote
Holster Maker Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 You already have a very slow throttle (Idle) return. It was very bad on the Mach 1's for some reason (air), the Mach 1 Forums talked about how bad it was for drag racing and had solutions. However, I love it, I tracked a Mach 1 for 3 yrs in TT's, race school and everbody that rode with me always commented that I had the best heel to toe they ever saw. I never said a word...............couldn't even do it! ....LOL So if your car is like mine, don't worry about moving anything. I'm serious! Quote
Tony G Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 I agree with the above, just leave it as is,hell who has time to heel/toe anyway Tony Guaglione Quote
Members Al F. Posted January 8, 2008 Members Posted January 8, 2008 First of all...welcome to the family/circus!! Second...dont listen to any of these guys, they're a bunch of hacks! I can attest to Tony not heel and toe-ing at all. That guy has some vodoo black magic going on because his lap times and his theory just dont add up using my math! I've ended playing with the pedal position in every car I've owned since starting racing. Almost always I've been able to get comfy just by getting the brake pedal physically closer to the gas pedal using a pad. NOTE: its pretty tough to adjust this properly sitting in the paddock or driving on the street (unless you live by Tony). You use the brakes much differently on track, and the right place is where it needs to be at the time when you actually roll your foot over Quote
Tony G Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 Maybe that is my problem, I simply dont use my brakes...my pads last for years and years,no heel toe, no brakes but maybe for a second or two a lap Al, when I come over to Texas I'm going to bring the Voodoo and jump in your car to give Jeff and Glenn some fits over there. Are you ready?? Tony Guaglione Quote
Glenn Posted January 8, 2008 Posted January 8, 2008 ready? us? you did notice where TX was standing for the last 2 years at Nationals, right? in 2008, i'll ask that a 4th step be added for the highest placing Kalyfourya driver regardless if its 4th or 20th. the question is, are you ready. Quote
PeteL Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 I live in Greenwood and I'm prepping a '00 Camaro for CMC2 right now. I hope to have it ready for April. Glad to see another car in the IN/OH region. Quote

HaHaHa that was funny, but really Glenn you know the only reason I didn't go was to make sure the Texan's didn't look so bad 2 years in a row..we had to give you a chance ,but its the last time that will happen... By the way I love that video of Jeff and all you guys running so hard, I'll never get tired of watching that. Tony Guaglione Quote

Tony Guaglione Thanks TG. I certainly understand that point of view Big Thanks go to Boudy and Argent Lab for ponying up the cash for the production of the Nat'l Championship Video. Glenn Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 well Tony, in 2008, i will not be caught spinning the rears like in 2007. Quote
Myrv9520 Posted January 9, 2008 Author Posted January 9, 2008 Golly, I want to thank everyone for their advice, and for taking the time to welcome a newcomer. I had to laugh about the note on the slow throttle return which may make me look like a real pro on the heel/toe, the car is notorious for this. I am getting ready to hit the dyno and see that the NASA recommended dyno shops in Indy are Ray Skillman and Automotive Specialists, anyone have experience with either? Also, anyone have experience with the Indy tech inspection group at AIM Tuning? Looking forward to meeting all of you some time this year -- Larry Myrvold Quote
King Matt1548534716 Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 No experience with either dyno, but Shane Benson at AIM is the regional chief tech director, so he's the man. Definitely the place to go for your annual. Quote
Tony G Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Good luck to you Larry you have a great car to get into CMC2. Anytime you need anything just ask, we are here for you. Tony Guaglione CMC National Director Quote
Holster Maker Posted January 9, 2008 Posted January 9, 2008 Tony, Maybe I should re-setup my Mach 1 for CMC 2 and forget all this adding weight/taking power away deal. Wish I would have known about CMC 2 a few yrs ago! Larry, You will love racing that car, put 4.10's w/that motor, no under pulleys and a MUST: Accusump or it will blow the top end! The 4v motor w/out it will happen! Good luck. Any questions, give me a yell, [email protected] I know all about them! Quote
