snakebit Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 I have a Kirkey 47500 series seat, it does not have the FIA sticker. Is it legal in CMC if I use a rear seat support? John Quote
King Matt1548534716 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 You have to use a seat-back brace with all aluminum seats per the NASA CCRs. But it's still legal for CMC. I'm pretty sure there is no such thing as an FIA-approved aluminum seat anyway. Quote
Keith Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Based on my own experiences with the seat rules and tech over the years, I strongly recommend you contact your regional tech guy and make sure that he will pass your setup. It won't take alot of time and it might save you some frustration. Seats are a CCR issue not a CMC issue. Quote
GT4Point6 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Most FIA seats, if not all, are composite material. Even if the seat is FIA, it still has to be installed in a manner that meets FIA spec or it's not rated at the FIA rating. In your case, a seat back brace is required and follow the above post advice and you'll be fine. Most seat back supports mount to the roll cage harness bar and bolt to the upper part of the seat. Other options may be available but I prefer the harness bar mount install, short, simple and effective. Quote

Glenn Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 i think i can speak for Keith when i say "yes, enough time has passed." Quote
Keith Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Not really... The crux of the "story" was that a seat that was passed three consecutive years across two regions was deemed illegal based on some pictures that this individual saw on the Internet. The reason I was given was that this individual decided that his own definition of "proper" changed in his own mind. ...no change to the verbage in the rulebook... Stuff like that just makes me slap my forehead in disbelief. I think I need more time. Quote
