Rear Main Seal Leak

Hey guys, Not really sure what board to ask this on but I will start here if you dont mind. I was originally going to buy Harley56's old CMC car that was built by Tony G. Regretfully funds will not allow this untill next season. I currently have a 65 mustang with full Maier racing suspension shelby drop and a big motor. I was going to try to HPDE a couple times this season to work my way towards a license. I have noticed I have a small leak in my rear main seal, probably a drop every 2-5 minutes or so. Should I not even bother entering a HPDE with my car in this condition. Are there any otehr remedies like a engine diaper that can work as a band aid untill I can rip apart the motor?

Thansk in advance

One drop every lap and a half? I doubt anyone would even notice.

Only 1 drop per 5 min is nothing you can run that way no problem, but you should keep your eye on it if it starts getting worse, than it may be time to get it fixed.

When you start seeing oil on your back bumper..then you know its really leaking.

That's not a big problem. After cracking a piston last year, I was losing 1/2 to 1qt of oil in a 40 minute race and most of that was blowing out of every seal it could get by.

I don't recommend running it leaking that much oil, but I didn't get black flagged since most of it now resides in every nook and cranny of my car

sounds like no issue at its present state, however if it is related to internal pressue caused my another proplem inside your engine, this kind of leak can be much worse in a road race enviroment. carefull monitoring would be in line here. other racers get really pissed when a spin or wreck is caused by anothers oil. do not get me wrong there are plenty of leaky race cars. thanks ben pfaff, auto tech and cmc originator.

Sorry, Al...even my twisted mind couldn't come up with the joke that is Ben Pfaff...nah, seriously Ben's an interesting guy (oh, the stories I could tell) and I've always enjoyed watching him at the races in my rear view mirror...tell, you what Ben...if you don't have a car, give me a buzz as I've got a CMC2 Camaro just sitting here waiting for a driver...is the world ready for a P&P race team?...Richard "serious offer" Pryor 831-622-9024
