Tony G
Speculation here: 2010, R888's in RA1 compound, since the RA1 molds are destroyed. That would solve it all...maybe I should call TOYO and tell them..but I'll bet someone has already done that. Look, NASA is on this big time, so again use what you have and let them figure out what is in store for 2010 and enjoy 2009 for now. Really its not that big a deal, it will get solved. Tri-Agan
enjoy 2009 for now.Really its not that big a deal, it will get solved. I agree completely Tony!!! I don't have expendable income like many of you, but I only worry about what I can control or infulence. Since I can't do either one, I will just enjoy my time at the track with my race buddies and see how it all shakes out. Kent
snakebit
I'm sure all of this will be resolved by the time I get on track. But....isn't the Nitto 01 the same compound as the RA1? Doesn't Toyo own Nitto?....hmmm. John
mitchntx1548534714
in TX and guys are buying new sets of RA1s. which means they will have extra tires at the end of the season and this will start all over again if they try to mandate the 888s without a major overhaul. When this very same mandate occurred LAST April, I had faith that what they said would, in actuality, happen. It wasn't until Toyo got involved and moved the date(s) that all this hell has broken loose. Pick a date and stick to it. If folks are buying tires today, KNOWING that it will take them beyond the current (and original) date, I have no sympathy for them.
AllZWay
Pick a date and stick to it. Seems like such a simple request.....yet has been so extremely difficult to do apparently.
Adam Ginsberg
To those buying "new" RA-1's....be sure to check the date code on your tires. During a discussion w/Bryan Shackleford @ CS 2 weekends ago, there's lot's of RA-1's floating around with 2006 and 2007 date codes. That said....I bought trip-8's late last year, and have no intention/money to go back to the RA-1. It is what it is.....

ShadowBolt
Speculation here:2010, R888's in RA1 compound, since the RA1 molds are destroyed. Tony, Is this a fact or just rumor? Since the 888 is slower, cost more, and does not last as long I am betting we will be back on RA1's next year. If the molds are gone then I'm wrong but if not and NASA cares at all about us (the grass-roots racer) then if we stay with Toyo we should have the RA1 as our spec tire. JJ Tony? From what I was told, Toyo changed manufacturing at the Toyo plant to R888s and moved production of RA-1s in the highest volume sizes to a Nitto plant (in Malaysia I think). Quality control and costs are supposedly lower there and they want it sold as a ultra high performance street tire, not a race tire.

Sidney
Tony, Phil's Tire is reporting that the RA1's have been put back into production for the SM size. Can you find out what's happening. I have a stack of R888's that haven't been mounted and would like to either force Toyo to take them back or cut me a check for the difference between these and the RA1's. If they really do wear in 1/2 the time I won't be racing all season. The RA1's were good for 10 to 12 days before showing cords and that's a season for me. Either Toyo has been lying to NASA or heaven forbid NASA Management has been lying to their customers. We've been told the reason to allow the RA1's is due to a poor economy and to allow racers to use up old RA1's. Putting the RA1's back into production makes one think the R888's are an inferior product. A real, solid, final decision...not just for 2009 but now 2010 needs to be made quickly. Thanks, Sidney Franklin CMC #
