snakebit Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Part #: MMCA-1 Manufacturer: Maximum Motorsports Are these legal? John Quote
KiMifan Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Not if they are welded in. If you can locate them without welding, then they would be the same as other legal spring spacers, since the rules allow you to change the size of the springs as long as they are in the stock location. Quote
TurboShortBus Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Installation instructions: http://www.maximummotorsports.com/content/install/pdf/rear_susp/MMCA-1r2.pdf Even if they aren't welded in, MM mentions that these parts should be used with their jacking screw lower arms (those only appear to be fixed, nonadjustable upper collars/seats/adapters for smaller ID springs; I'm assuming that they have a matching/proprietary collar on the lower spring pad that other brands might not have). It seems that these arms would be disallowed (per 7.33.3, "any spring perch must be of fixed height" and 7.33.5, "spacers may not allow adjustment...without spring removal"), but would the jacking screw just have to be adjusted to match the stock spring perch location and then be welded in place (at which point you could use typical shims at the top of the spring), similar to adjustable-length control arms also mentioned in 7.33.3? Even if it's OK, it seems like a lot of time, work, and money to render an adjustable system mostly nonadjustable, especially when SSS already offers stock-style rear pigtail springs in 25 lb increments. Mark Experimenting with some different (quadrabindless) rear setups. What I'm working towards might require more spring than i can find in a pigtail (350 lb.) John Mark, how did you like Road Atlanta? Awesome track Quote
TurboShortBus Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 That place is great! The elevation changes are a blast, and are a lot different than the flat stuff I'm used to in Florida. I managed to get down to a 1:44.08 on Sunday afternoon, and I don't think there is much time left with this driver in the car. Mark Quote
Members Al F. Posted August 11, 2009 Members Posted August 11, 2009 You guys need to get a hold of Don Lariviere of cmcparts.com. I've seen some pretty cool rear spring spacers he's working on. Quote
HMark Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I'll have them up on the site as soon as I get home from a conference in Utah. -Don Quote

Sorry to hijack this, but....RA is one of my absolute favorite race tracks. Coming under the bridge, down the hill towards the front straight is incredible. A 1:44.08 is damn good stuff - nice work. Check our laptimes from the The Pot 'O Gold Rush in March of 2007. Quote
TurboShortBus Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Hell yeah, that downhill right hander through turn 12 is one hell of an experience. You either have to be too dumb to know the difference or have big balls to fly through there, and I definitely qualify for the former. I borrowed a Traqmate on Sunday, and it said that I was going 108 mph under start/finish bridge at the bottom. Thanks! But, in all fairness, my car is part CMC and part CMC2. It has CMC power (bone stock from dirty paper filter to original cats, making 235 rwhp), CMC weight (3260 lbs), and CMC tire width (255 mm RA1s), but CMC2 brakes (13" Cobra R Brembos up front with stock GT stuff out back) and CMC2 wheels (17x9), so it can stop better than CMC cars. Oops, back to spring adapters... Mark Quote
Adam Ginsberg Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Al is correct - contact Don @ cmcparts.com for non-weld in spring adapters. Glad you had fun @ RA. One of the few regrets I have about moving to CA is being so far away from some outstanding east coast tracks. Quote

One of the few regrets I have about moving to CA is being so far away from some outstanding east coast tracks. Will do Adam, thanks. Yes RA is an awesome track...and I'm only 1 1/2 hours away! Some really nice tracks within 3 hours of me. RA, Barber, CMP, infield course @Lowes Motor Speedway (or whatever the new name will be). And AMP under construction now in north Atlanta. Mark, wow....heck of good time...good job. Hope to make it down to Sebring some time. I've always wanted to drive that track. Thanks for the info John Quote
TurboShortBus Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Hey John, come on down! NASA-FL usually runs at Sebring twice a year, and our next weekend there is October 3-4. It looks like this in a CMC-speed Mustang: Mark Quote
