rocky Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 Anyone know where I can find quality parts and pricing on things like a good cage and suspension for my 3rd gen CMC project.I am not too sure if the ones(cages)in Jegs or Summit will be legal cause they always say NHRA legal. Thanks for the help Quote
AThomas Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 I bought the through the dash kit from S&W Race Cars then modified it to fit the NASA CCR. Quote
Lady in Nomex Posted August 25, 2009 Posted August 25, 2009 http://www.frrax.com/rrforum/index.php?act=idx Many CMCers and third genners on there. Lots of reading for ya! Quote

At a minimum at least two door safety bars must be used on the drivers side, and one door safety bar on the passenger side. Gutting of the door beyond what is solely necessary to fit cage bars is allowed. However, removal of the OEM door impact beams is only allowed if door bars extend out towards the door skin on the driver's side, and on the passenger side if a minimum of two door bars are used. If the above link adequately illustrates the cage you get for $500, you will have to add 1 bar on the driver's side and remove the "inner bars" of the main hoop. And you cannot remove the factory side impact bars. Quote
KiMifan Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 That S&W cage as illustrated also doesn't have the mandatory diagonal in the main hoop, and the kicker bars that go down to the trans tunnel exceed the legal number of chassis attachment points. By the time you add to and modify that kit, you might as well have just gotten a custom cage built. Quote
rocky Posted August 26, 2009 Author Posted August 26, 2009 thanks for the info.guess i will modify a kit.I do do not know of anyone local who can build a cage, just out of curiosity about how much does that run.Mitch I just realized you were on LS1 tech also. Quote
FBody383 Posted August 26, 2009 Posted August 26, 2009 Mitch I just realized you were on LS1 tech also. Mitch is everywhere Quote

By the time you add to and modify that kit, you might as well have just gotten a custom cage built. I repurposed some of the bars that came with the kit and bought one stick of 1 3/4"X0.120 DOM for door bars on both sides. At the time, tubing was high and it was cheaper to buy the kit mostly prebent than buy it straight and pay the labor to have it bent. Do NOT think that this is a plug and play kit. It's just a shortcut around some of the more complicated bending tasks. Quote
rocky Posted August 27, 2009 Author Posted August 27, 2009 I know its not plug and play.I have helped a little on a cage install before.I know it can be time consuming and a pain to get it in and right. Also I took Landy in Nomex's advice.I have joined frrax as well and checking out things there.I have found some pics to help me out,I just need to go back over the CCR with whoever I chose to weld it in.Kent if you check this out do you know a good place around the Richmond area or Newport News area that could do this for me.I am stuck between the 2 and it takes me about the same time to get to either location. LarryV Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Rocky, Check out Kirk Racing in Alabama.kirkracing.com.I bought my cage kit from them for my 3rd gen and have had lots of compliments.Ask for their A Sedan kit.Very nice people to deal with.Had it delivered to CA in less than a week.I had some friends who build late models install it and they said it was very easy to fit.You can order with Nascar door bars that fit nicely. They advertise in GRM.
