Members Al F. Posted September 16, 2009 Members Posted September 16, 2009 Ground rules...NASA will continue a Norcal and a Socal schedule, this is not our decision to make. What IS our decision to make is how to assemble a crossover calendar to create an overall California crown. Kent and the east coast folks have been doing this for years with no fuss and much success. Your thoughts appreciated. Quote
G_Lemke Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I think the most important point is when So Cal and Nor Cal both have an event on the same date, pick one for CMC and make this a cross over date. After that, when they are on consecutive weekends, consider making one of those a weekend "off". This should not effect those who only want to race local, while also allowing those who don't mind a long tow to do all the California races. Anyone think they can get a triple crown? Quote
RWalter Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 "My thoughts"......that sure opens the door. I'm in the process of prepping a CMC2 car for next season and was looking forward to the idea that we were going to combine North and South as before. I was envisioning a much larger turn out than this year......but the prospect of that looks bleak Having run with the CMC group in California as an FFR driver for multiple years I've been impressed with the CMC group and loved the high car count. Being able to run without a wide variety of classes intermingled has been a real plus. I'm having a problem seeing any up side to the North and South split. It sure wasn't a booming sucess this year. Speaking for myself........I like large same class race groups! Since we are "stuck" ( is that the right word) with the division I would personally like to see as many crossover races as possible so that we can all compete together. Just my 2 cents Quote
bsim Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I had a nice long detailed post that got lost due to a connection problem, so I'll summarize. The split is a good thing - long term. Both regions will get larger eventually. 4+ hour tows suck. 12+ hour tows should be for national level races. ALL crossovers should be at Buttonwillow (as close to central CA we have). Suggested schedule: 1st, last, and one middle races at Buttonwillow. Norcal gets 3 additional races split between T-Hill and Sears SoCal gets 3 additional races split between Willow Springs and CA Speedway Also, what about screwing with the points? NorCal guys get double points for SoCal races and vice-versa? The top 15 finishes count towards the championships. The only cars that matter to me are the one in front and the one behind (or the two on either side of me). Anything more that that is wasted on me. Plus, I'd rather have 5-10 close friends than 25 who I barely know their names. discuss Quote
HMark Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I sort of agree with Brad, I think the crossover races should only be at Buttonwillow or Sears. Both are easy tows for most people. I would like to attend ThunderHill maybe once a year, it would be nice to be able to use maybe 1 or 2 out of region races a year towards your regional scoring. That way the 9 hr tow to THill isn't just a fun run. -Don Quote
bsim Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Lemme drop another bomb... If we crossover at Sears and CA Speedway, let's eliminate "drops". Give full credit to those that choose to do the travel. If there's 7 NorCal races and a crossover for them at CA Speedway, what's the incentive to go if they can just drop the races? Pretty easy to skip the ones with the extra long tows. Hence, no one travels out of region (except Sears lovin' Nick). If you wanna win a championship, you outta go to every race. Quote
Tony G Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Hey Brad, don't you actually have to come to the track to post comments here ..we all know you hate to drive more than 1 hour, but if you want to really race then driving is part of the game. I would drive 6+ hours to be with my 20+ friends before I drive 2 hrs to be with 1/4 of them anyday. NASA made the rules and its thier business to make them, I left because I just don't agree with the whole deal... and that is my personal one person opinion. When I joined CMC, it was and always about car count and the fun we have with racing each other, I tried for 10 years to keep it that way. I wish the best for all of you. Quote
bsim Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Yup, we all know I'm not able to travel as much as some others. But you *have* seen me at Sears, T-Hill, and Ohio (twice). I just don't like spending 24 hours total towing for 3 hours of track time. Never had, never will, but I'm still here! There are many advantages to the large car counts in regards to NASA, and I know that. Not being top dog loses us Q-races, preferred times, etc. But I have to say, the real reason you stepped down is so you can finally speak your mind on the interwebs!! Quote
Tony G Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 And boy it feels good !! I got what your saying Brad, wish we could meet up some more. Tony Quote
GT4Point6 Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 On the points drop, I think you should be able to drop one regional event, not the crossover. Refresh me memory on the Cali Cup. If the smaller region only gets two races due to car count, how will this affect the Cali Cup? Maybe I need to find the post on the cup and review. Quote
Lady in Nomex Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 On the T-Hill configs I would also prefer two CCW and one CW vs. the two CW and one CCW we had this year. Quote
Adam Ginsberg Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Here is a link to the Cal Cup information. My perspective - the only major complaint, IMO, with the 2009 schedule was competing event weekends between SoCal and NorCal. That was a mistake. Additionally, not have 3 races per weekend didn't help.....but that was totally dictated by car counts. I really like the Cal Cup crossover events, however, my suggestion is to make one of the NorCal X-overs (like SPIR) and one of the SoCal X-overs (like BW) mandatory - if a competitor is unable to attend the mandatory events, they must carry the zeros. The goal is to entice/encourage racers to plan their schedule, and attend crossovers. The ability to drop local races should still exist - the reality is we aren't pro racers, and have to consider work/family/financial issues for competitors. A huge benefit of the Cal Cup is the winner gets a free entry to the Nats - pretty damn nice. I think that should continue. Quote
GT4Point6 Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 Thanks for the link Adam and I agree about the CUP, great addition to the series. Quote
