Depaja Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 First off, hello everyone. I found about CMC from an article in Fast Fords and Muscle Mustangs by Matt King. So I thought I'd check it out. I have a couple rule questions. I have a '98 GT with an NPI engine are you allowed to do anything to the engine to get it up to the 230 RWHP mark? Like using the PI intake and cams? Or a PI head swap? Second, I just replaced my clutch and flywheel with the 'King Cobra' clutch kit and the FRPP nodular iron flywheel: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-6375-D46/ Is that flywheel considered legal? Thanks for any light you can shed on this for me. Mike Quote
GT4Point6 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Welcome to the CMC site. Your flywheel should be fine, the aluminum ones are illegal. I also run the king cobra clutch. I'm sure a director could set you straight on the NPI mods but some have in the past put the PI heads and associated gear on the NPI blocks and gotten the compression increase. Can't remember if it was ruled legal or not to be honest so hopefully someone will chime in soon. The NPI heads won't make anywhere near the 230 rwhp numbers with the allowed mods. My old 98 GT just made over 200, 201-202 with almost all the bolt on parts available. You can run it in HPDE's until you get the parts you need to make it better. Track time is a racers best friend. Depaja Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 I do have the SVO intake that was made just for the NPI heads and the SVO heads, but I have a feeling that would be out of bounds also. I know if you keep the NPI heads and add the PI cam and PI intake you can get the NPI up to around 230. I would just hate to have to swap out engines since my NPI runs just fine. Thanks for the info on the clutch! Quote
Depaja Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 I'm in Atlanta. I just noticed that there is not a CMC Southeast div. Oh, and to clear things up (I just re-read my last post), I only have the SVO intake and the NPI engine that came in my GT. I do not have the SVO heads. Mike Edit: Doh, while I did not see a SE div. I did notice that the Santa's Toy Run at Road Atlanta will have a CMC race. I guess when I did not see a SE div. that I assumed that there were no CMC races in this part of the country. I'm a total newbie here so I'm still learning Quote
Adam Ginsberg Posted November 15, 2009 Posted November 15, 2009 Mike - welcome to the CMC loony bin. There definitely is a CMC SE group - Jeff Burch, Robert Boudreaux and I raced with them at RA and BMP back in 2007. Regarding your NPI/PI questions, the update/backdate rule (sections 5, and 7.3) allows the use of PI equipment on a NPI engine. However, using the FRPP/SVO intake and/or FRPP/SVO cylinder heads is not permitted. Please don't hesitate to contact a Director with additional questions. We're here to help. Quote
Depaja Posted November 15, 2009 Author Posted November 15, 2009 Thank you for the info. I saw the update/backdate rule but I was not clear on it. I was thinking that you had to do a whole engine and not down to the component level. Great, I guess I'll trade my SVO intake for some PI heads. I'm just in the planing stages and have a long way to go, but I want to nail down a plan before I start to upgrade. I have had to many projects go unfinished because I did not have a goal or plan. Thanks again for the welcome and for clearing up my rule question. Mike Quote
Members Al F. Posted November 15, 2009 Members Posted November 15, 2009 Welcome Mike!! There are definitely cars in your area and more just around the corner. Get a hold of Kent Lydic, his contact info is on the last page of the rules. He'll get you all the dirt on racing in your area. As far as what is legal and what isnt...check out the book and then fire away with guestions here or on the phone to your directors. We've all been exactly where you are and there's a lot to learn...but its the most fun you can have legally Quote

Now that I have a goal it's time to put a project down to paper. It may take me awhile, but now I know at least I'm heading toward something. Quote
