lee33lyn Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I'm getting ready to put my motor back in my 95 camaro and need to get a clutch and pressure plate. Any suggestions? Quote
RichV Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 NASA members get a great discount with Exedy. You need to call them directly and have your member # ready. Pricing was great and I'm happy with mine. I got the stage 1 for my race car and it seems to be holding up well. A lot of guys are using Exedy on our region and I have not heard any complaints. Quote
BADVENM Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I too got my replacement clutch from Exedy. The price difference is around 50% off, plus shipping. Great deal. Have your NASA number and stuff of the sort ready. I think there is a special number to call. Quote
Glenn Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 i am wondering if they even make one for an LT1 Camaro. its unlike any other clutch set-up out there. Quote
DrC Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 Did you say there is a special Phone numer to call? I need one for a 95 stang Quote
RichV Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 http://www.nasaproracing.com/forms/2009/Exedy.pdf Just follow these simple steps.. It states in there 11/15/2009 is the latest order date, so I hope NASA resigned with Exedy for 2010. Call that 1-800 #, I'm sure they'll give you the details. Quote
lee33lyn Posted January 15, 2010 Author Posted January 15, 2010 Ok, got my clutch kit on the way. With my NASA discount ( which they couldn't tell me how much it took off ) it was still 400$. That seems high for a clutch kit. What do you guys think? thanks Lee PS Its Exedy and they didn't recognize that part # Quote
Adam Ginsberg Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 $400 for a clutch???!!! Is that the going price for a stock-ish LT1 clutch? In late 2008, I bought a new RAM clutch from 50resto.com - $163.95, now listed a $144.95. Clutch, PP, TOB. I think I'll stick with a Ford. DrC - contact 50resto.com. They are great supporters of AI/CMC, and will treat you very well. Quote
Glenn Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 LT1 clutchs are totally different than any other clutch set-up for GM V-8's. it uses a pull type finger on the PP rather than a push. the OEM replacements are not cheap. one thing to know, Valero is the only people allowed to manufacture that type of PP. most aftermarkets use the OEM "Valero" PP and put it w/ thier kit in an unmodified form. The flywheel is also very different than most GM V8 flywheels. Quote
AllZWay Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Like Glenn....said... for the LT1's, you have to get a clutch and pressure plate as a kit...not just a disk. LT1's flex the opposite of a standard clutch. I just use a stock Autozone special in my CMC car. I do run a SPEC3 in my street car. Quote
KiMifan Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 LT1's flex the opposite of a standard clutch. GM really took that "reverse flow" stuff seriously with that engine. Quote
DrC Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 adam_ginsberg Thanks for the info- 50resto.com. I have a Spec 2+ in my 91 and love it, a little hard on the leg but manageable. Still plan to talk to Exedy to see what they have to offer and at what price. Would like to take advantage of there “CONTINGENCY PROGRAMâ€. Since my car is so old I will get the full kit, I have to replace the rear main seal anyway. Quote
Members Al F. Posted January 17, 2010 Members Posted January 17, 2010 $200 is more like the right range for an OEM replacement clutch set for an LT1. It goes up from there for high performance stuff. I've had great luck with stock clutches. Quote
