lee33lyn Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 can i use any type of sub frame connectors? can i use strut tower braces? this is for my 95 camaro thanks lee Quote
KiMifan Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 Read the rules. There are some limitations on the design of both parts, mainly regarding attachment points. Quote
Glenn Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 wall thickness limits on the subs. strut tower attachment point limits. as posted above, the rules are pretty clear on this. Quote
lee33lyn Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 the only advice I get is to "read the rules".And I don't see anything about the wall thickness of subs in the rules I'm readin. Sorry, just new to the CMC build and was looking for a little better advice than "read the rules" Both of those first two post where useless info. thanks Lee Quote
MHISSTC Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 The answer to both of your questions could be YES, or it could be NO depending upon what you have in mind. What the previous answers are trying to convey to you by giving you a "read the rules" response is that in order to get adequate guidance from others, you need to ask more detailed questions. You'll find the answers to vague questions in the rules. No, there are no wall thickness limitations...although I think there used to be in an older version of the CMC rules. According to the rules as they are written now, you could weld a 4 inch I-beam or a piece of steel rail road track between your subframes (great idea for keeping weight low and concentrated at the center of the car!) and be legal as long as you maintained ground clearance, only welded at the ends, and kept it on the outside of the car. From the CMC rules: 7.6 Chassis Strengthening 7.6.1 The frame or subframe shall be stock for the body used. The front and rear subframes may be tied together (front to rear only) with subframe connectors. The subframe connectors may be bolted or welded to the unmodified subframes, but may not be welded or bolted to the floor along the length of the subframe connector. The subframe connectors may not pass through the floor or intrude into the inside of the car. OEM seat mount points may be altered or reinforced. The reinforcement may tie into the subframe connectors or the cage but may not span across the floor from driver to passenger side. 7.6.2 One bolt in stay rod may be fitted between the upper front strut towers and between each strut tower and the firewall, as long as the firewall attachment point is not within 18" of a roll cage attachment point on the other side of the firewall. lee33lyn Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Thanks, I quess I'm a little sensitive to the " read the rules" phrase. I've read them top to bottom several times. I was looking for a little more specific to what the 4th gen guys are doing to there cars. It seems this site is very tight with actual tips guys use. I quess i can understand that but I thought CMC was a driver's series and the car's where supposed to be equal. thanks Lee Quote
Keith Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 I know what you are saying. Try frrax. I didn't use SFC's on my old 4th Gen CMC car (if I remember correctly). I found that the cage made the car very rigid and I didn't want the weight penalty since the car was already grossly overweight. Quote
lee33lyn Posted January 23, 2010 Author Posted January 23, 2010 Yeah, I got a pm from a good source that a good roll cage will eliminate the need for both items. thanks Quote
Glenn Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 You asked "can I" instead of "what do you". Now that i know what you really wanted to know...... I use BMR subs. I do not use a STB. does no good what so ever on a 4th gen. Quote
